Disney Collaboration with Fierce Nerditude: Cogsworth from Beauty and The Beast.

Happy Hallowe’en, y’all! Hope you had a fab time. My weekend involved men in sock suspenders (and little else), gin, cupcakes and Pass the Parcel. This week Vijaya gave me Cogsworth from Beauty and the Beast as I gave her Lumiere last week and she felt they should go together. I quite agree! (And really, what’s more creepy than a walking, talking clock?!) Be sure to go and check out her Duchess from The Aristocats look, I can’t wait to see it!

Lid: Silk Naturals Checkered. Crease, Silk Naturals Hair Pin. Liner, Fyrinnae STFU.
Cogsworth is a pompous old sod, so I didn’t really want to do anything dramatic for him. I don’t think he’d approve of lots of makeup (and my in-laws were coming over so I didn’t have too much time) and although I wanted to play with clock hands somehow I couldn’t work it out! A bit more subtle than what I’d normally wear of a weekend – alright, a lot more – but I thought this was quite flattering and had a lovely glow to it in real life.. I just wore this with clear gloss and light coral cheeks – and a moustache, of course. Sorry there’s not full face shots – the pictures came out terrible and I have at least ninety spots on my chin.

Disney Collaboration with Fierce Nerditude: Tiger Lily

This week, I got given Tiger Lily from Peter Pan as my character. I have to say that I’m not the biggest fan of her character – she doesn’t seem to do all that much except what I can only describe as a child lap dance, and then gets kidnapped and does sweet fuck-all about it. Good old fashioned Disney! Probably the less said about the native Americans in that film the better, but, it has Captain Hook in it, sooooo….

This week I gave Vijaya ….. Buzz Lightyear! So go check it out.

Eyes: Sleek Bohemian and Circus palettes, with Kiko Long Wearing Eyeshadow Stick no 10 on the lower lashline.
Lips/cheeks: Silk Naturals Cream Blush in 'Tickled’

I’m pretty happy with this look!  Even though the crease didn’t turn out quite how I wanted (FYI, the e.l.f mineral blending brush sucks balls) I still think it’s pretty cute! I should have used a lighter blue and a more reddish pink, but whatever.

Silk Naturals Fall Eyeshadow Swatches and Looks

Silk Naturals have a bunch of new stuff for Fall which I was lucky enough to try out. Today I’ve got a bunch of the new eyeshadow swatches to show y’all, and some looks I’ve done with them as well. All swatches are done over bare skin on the top and over NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk on the bottom of the photo. Let’s get crackin’!

silknaturalsgreens1
silknaturalsgreens2

Left to right, Kingfisher, Magpie, Nebula.

I find it funny that Kingfisher didn’t get named Magpie as it’s the exact colour of the sheen of magpie’s feathers! Kingfisher is a lovely light green-blue witha  gold shift – quite similar to Hi-Fi’s Slime and Snails, but with a more subtle shift. Very pretty. Nebula is an iridescent teal colour – very shimmery and pretty.

silknaturalsgreen2

silknaturalsgreen1

Here I’ve got Nebula on the lid, with Magpie in the inner corner, Nebula on the upper lashline and Peacock Cream liner (will do a quickie review soon!) on the lower lashline. I wish I’d done this over P.E or something stickier than UDPP, but if you enlarge you can see the lovely sheen to Nebula.

silknaturalsmisc1

silknaturalsmisc2

L-R: Roque, Swift, Checkered.

Rogue is described as a blackened teal that’s similar to Nebula with more of a golden gleam. I don’t see a whole lot of gold, though it is there and the finish is less iridescent than Nebula. I think this would make for a gorgeous green smokey eye with a black and purple! Swift is a medium, almost mossy green and is my favourite out of the three. I think it would look great as a liner with Chequered, which is a soft yellow gold that is really nice in a Fall collection. I don’t have a gold/yellow like that in my collection so I’m pretty happy with it!

Swift on the lid, with Rogue in the crease and Checkered in the inner corner. Peacock Cream liner as a base on the outer upper lid. Loving Swift longtime.

L-R: Heat, Glory, Fusion, Hairpin.

I think immediately of autumn when I look at Heat. It’s a beautiful soft coppery orange which I can see being very flatting with my eye colour. Glory is possibly my favourite out of the bunch – it’s super glittery in real life and I probably ought to have swatched it over something much stickier. Fusion is described as a ‘dirty copper plum’ – it’s in the same family as Glory, for sure, but slightly cooler and obviously not as woah, sparkly. It goes wonderfully  with Hairpin (cute name!), a dirty sort of bronze (I’m so bad at colour descriptions!)

Glory on the lid, Heat in the crease with Fusion in the ‘upper’ crease, and Hairpin on the lower lashline. Not captured: Glory’s awesomeness.
All in all, I’m quite pleased with these shadows! For a Fall collection, I think the colours are perfect and there are some stunners in here – Kingfisher, Glory and Swift I can see myself getting a lot of use out of in particular. For those of you who know more about SN than I do, what do I need to try from them shadow-wise?

Quickie Review: Silk Naturals Cream Blush

Some indie cream blushes for you all today! Silk Naturals very kindly sent me some of thier cream blushes which I believe are new for Fall. (In England, we call it "autumn." We're very tricksy, us Brits.)

silknaturalscreamblushes

Interestingly, these come in a tube like a lip balm. At first my mind went 'weird!,' and then I thought... why is that weird? It actually works out quite well as you can just dab it directly where you need it, which is quite nice for on-the-go.  Fingers (clean!) are the best brush sometimes, I don't care what anyone says! If I'm off on a night out I do like to touch up my make-up and a teeny-tiny handbag sized blush is a wicked addition to my arsenal.

silknaturalscreamblushes2

Tickled on the right, Avalanche on the left.

silknaturalscreamblushes

Tickled blended out, Avalanche blended out.

Candy Apple on the right, Entice on the left.

silknaturalscreamblushes4

Candy Apply blended on the right, Entice blended on the left.

Tickled and Avalanche have a more creamy texture and finish, though Avalanche blends out more chunkily.  I'll be trying Tickled as a lippy soon! Candy Apple and Entice are more glossy - when you apply them on the skin, you get a more natural look. All of these apart from Avalanche left a very slight stain on my arm which came off when washing. I don't notice a stain on my face.

Candy Apple on the cheek. Hellllooo, pores and acne marks!

I was pretty impressed when I wore Candy Apple - it lasted from when I applied it around 8.00 and was still on and going strong when I looked at 3.00 that afternoon. I had powdered over it with my face powder, but I thought that was still pretty good for a cream blush nonetheless. My Inglot ones certainly don't last that long without fading noticeably anyway.

I've not worn Avalanche on my cheeks yet as I prefer something warmer normally, but here I've worn it as a brow highlight and think that will become it'll be regularly used as as it blends out to a nice sparkle - click to embiggen and see. I used to use Benefit Mr Frosty a lot for highlighting, which is ridiculously priced for what it is, and is in a big chunky pencil so you lose a lot when you sharpen it. Silk Naturals say this can be used over lipstick so I'll have to try that,

I've only used Entice under a powder blush but I will update once I've worn it on it's own. (I've not worn Tickled yet either, so likewise.) Before I applied the powder blush, I did note that I didn't look like I'd been punched in the cheek which is what quite often happens if I wear anything vaguely purple on my face. I still think this would be a lovely shade for darker skin tones, though.

What are y'alls favourite cream blushes?

I don't have to do a disclaimer, cos I iz English, but, Silk Naturals sent me these for review. If they were awful or I didn't like them, you'd still be hearing about it.

Silk Naturals Lip Products: Review and Swatches

Recently the ladies at Silk Naturals contacted me and asked if I’d like to try some of their products. Having been looking at some of Phyrra’s swatches that same day, I said yes and a week later, a parcel of lipstick dropped on my doormat. Hurrah!

silknaturals
Ohhhh, am I ashamed of myself. I managed to stain Roxie by putting in the pocket of my new black jeans, which them got soaked… and I put the bottom one in a tiny weeny pocket… with my key. Silly me. Everything else has held up to my abuse very well though!

Silk Naturals carry lipsticks, balms, tinted balms, stains and plumper-style balms. I’ve got five of their formulas to take a butchers at, so let’s dive right in.

Lip Stain in Roxie and Doll

silknaturalsdoll

silknaturalsvsbenefit

Silk Naturals ‘Doll’ on the left, Benefit Benetint on the right.
Roxie is a deep brown (gorgeous! I really like browns on me and this isn’t too early 90’s Friends extra brown) and Doll is a lovely fuchsia-pink. At first I thought it was similar to Benetint, but as you can see Benetint is more rosy and has a much more watery consistency. This kicks Benetints ass as it actually stains and gives me a colour on my lips which the Benetint does not.

After dinner, a glass of juice and (not going to lie) a bit of a snog, Roxie held up pretty well. It was a bit of a lipstick ‘ring’ situation. Without eating these seem to last indefinitely but my lips feel dry toward the end of the day. Pretty pleased with these all in all and would recommend them, although I would also tell you to exfoliate your lips before applying, which as you may be able to tell I did not. I also need to try patting them on with my finger as I’m not sure that the hard edges the doe foot gives you quite work with the look of a stain. That's down to my application though, I'm sure.

Organic Lipstick in Bombshell

silknaturalbombshell

Gorgeous, huh? Pretty much in love with this one. It’s a very glossy formula, blue-leaning enough to be nice and vampy and very pigmented. I’d perhaps recommend a liner with this one if you’re a bit fussy with your red lips, as it’s not very long lasting. I’d certainly check out more of these.
Vegans take note, this is vegan!

Amplifying Lip Glaze in Pretty Please

silknaturalsprettyplease

I always worry that plumping products will be super-stingy, but this one is just tingly and has a pleasant peppermint smell. Some peppermint in lip products can be synthetic smelling but this is quite nice.

I love the colour of this – more often than not I wear peach blushes, so this is a perfect everyday colour for me. Very interested in Glacier, though, which is a sheer teal, and Fanfare and Blaze. Mmmmm, orange. Really enjoying everything I received from SN,  but this is my favourite of the bunch by far. I just love it.
Kisser Slicker Flavoured Lip Gloss in Nectar

silknaturalsnectar

Kisser Slickers are their most moisturising glossy formula. There’s over 45 shades of these so… lots of choice there! This is supposedly a dupe for Clinque Black Honey…. *crickets*. As I’ve noted, I like a shade with a hint of brown to it –this is a nice browny-red neutral – I wore with just mascara and liner on a lazy day and still felt nice and polished. Has a light, sweet coconut smell and taste.

Buttercream Lip Glaze in Hibiscus

silknaturalshibiscus

Sadly I suspect this is not as edible as actual buttercream (which I find extremely edible). These are billed as ‘creamy, long lasting color plus a bit of shine.’ It’s hard to compare this to the Kisser Slicker as I only have one of each, but I’d say this is a little less pigmented than the Kisser Slickers? I find them fairly similar on the lips, but this one doesn’t have a taste.
This is a glossy, sheer hot pink. I’m finding it quite moisturizing as well – it’s a lovely tinted balm.

A few notes on the website, as Silk Naturals is new to me. There is a LOT of information there. Each lip product is rated on its formula, colour family, tone, finish, shimmer scale, depth of colour, opacity, and whether it’s gluten or dye-free. There’s also a related product tab so you can see what other products they have that will go with that lip product. I don’t think that that would necessarily work for a company that does a lot of more out-there colours, but I really think it works on this site and it’s a nice touch. With my package, I got a pamphlet with all their products ingredients (which is good as they’re not on the packaging) and instructions regarding mixing their mineral foundations.

In in all, lovely colours, nice packaging and formulas, and good, easy to navigate website with lots of info.  Most of the lip products are just under $5, and while I’d like personally some more out-there lip colours – an purple  in the Organic range would be cool! - I don’t really have anything negative to say about what I received at all, and I’d certainly purchase from Silk Naturals.

Do you wear Silk Naturals? Any recommendations?

Disney Collaboration with Fierce Nerditude: Kevin from Up

Vijaya gave me Kevin from Up to do as my character this week and I’m so happy because I love her! (Yep, Kevin is a she!) I gave Vijaya the Cheshire Cat to do from Alice in Wonderland this week, so go check that out too Smile

Eyes: Inglot yellow and teal, teal eyelid, silver browbone and both crease colours from Wet and Wild Blue Had Me At Hello Palette, Fyrinnae Bite Me and Electro Koi, pink from Sleek Circus, Barry M Opal Fine Glitter Dust, and probably also some other stuff….
Lips: Silk Naturals Butter Cream Lip thingy in Hibiscus
Cheeks: Inglot AMC Cream Blush 83

Man, this was challenging! I don’t know why I felt the need to do a cut crease because they never look good on me, being that I have enough more than enough crease to go around and that my eyes are very asymmetrical. And I used ALL the colours. But… if you don’t look too closely, I kind of like it! And I have something to practice now as well!
