In Which I Get Drunk And Forget How To Use A Camera

Look, y’all. Don’t lie, I know you’ve done it too. You do awesome makeup for a night out, or you have a few beverages, and you forget to take a photo of your banging face. As I’ve been a busy bee and it’s been raining like a rainy thing here in the U.K, I’ve no proper blog posts lined up, so have some crappy phone pics of makeup what I done did.

night out

Eyes and brows were all Sugarpill, lips are Illamasqua Apocalips.

night out

Eyes are all Inglot with Collection2000 black liner and Kryolan Pearlweiss glitter. Lips are MAC CYY.

I kind of wish I’d taken proper pictures. My contouring for the first look is whack, but the eyes look good. Funnily enough my skin looked boss for the second look even though I jacked up the liner a bit. Ah well!

Parrot Inspired Eye using Sugarpill and Fyrinnae

Just a bit of silly fun really! I’ve been watching a lot of face painting videos and at the moment am obsessed with doing detail on my creased lids. If I can do it on my lids I can do it on anyone's! I didn’t really put much time into this at all – this took me about 15 minutes give or take, but I’d like to come back to it and do it properly. It’s vaguely parrot inspired (actually, it’s inspired by a miniature I’m painting which is kind of like an Amazonian harpy, but uh, less of that…) but I think it looks a bit more, um, phallic.

Products used: Sugarpill Love+, Mochi, Velocity. Fyrinnae Bifrost (thanks Joey! x), NYZ Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Milk. Boots No 7 Vital Enlightening Highlighter.

I wish I’d laid a colour down in the crease, and actually sat down and thought about it before I drew up into my eyebrow! I think I need to think larger with this the second time around… ;)

LOTD: Don’t Teal Me You Love Me

Just a simple look showcasing a new pretty from Darling Girl Cosmetics! Don’t Teal Me You Love Me was a limited edition duo chrome colour, and even though I’ve cut down a lot on my indie purchases, I simply had to have this shade and snapped it straight up!

Eyes: Darling Girl Don’t Teal Me You Love Me (lid, lower lashline), Sugarpill Poison Plum (outer V), MAC Gesso (highlight.)
Face: Darling Girl Kiss You Off Color Rich Lip Balm in Honey Love (as a blush), Make Up Store High Tech Lighter in Stardust
Lips: Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipstick in 255 Mauve Diamonds

I really, really love this colour. It’s so hard to capture but it’s got a purple shift in some lights, it’s really beautiful. If you click to embiggen that full face photo, you can see how vibrant it really is! I’m just wearing it here over an eye primer, I can’t imagine how zingy it would be over a sticky base! While my favourite products from Darling Girl are the lip and cheek colours, if you’re into indie makeup and haven’t tried DG’s eyeshadows, you’re really missing out.

What’s been your favourite indie makeup purchase lately?

Tropical Fish Collaboration with Liza: Clownfish Lips!

Liza and I have been saying we’ll do a tropical fish collaboration together for ages and we’ve finally done it! I’m crap with fish and the only two that sprang to mind were clownfish and blue tangs (hey, I’m a Disney fan!). I’d done a Dory look a long time ago, so Liza took the blue tang and I took the clownfish!

Kyrolan Supracolor in white, MAC Gesso. Sugarpill Flamepoint, Buttercupcake, Mochi, Velocity and Lumi. Kryolan glitter in Pearlweiss. Collection2000 24/7 Extreme Liner. Make Up Store High Tech Lighter in Stardust.

I’m on a bit of a lip art kick at the moment as I find it really difficult. Keeping your mouth open for a long period of time is kind of difficult and potentially gross as well. Anyway, that aside, despite a fair few imperfections, I really like my clownfish lips! I think they’re cute and fun.

And a little step-by-step just for fun!

Thanks for reading guys – be sure to check out Liza’s look and Twitter too! Smile

Double Whammy: Lip Art with Sugarpill and Illamasqua

lip art

A cold grey weekend calls for fun, bright makeup! I had a couple of lip art idea I wanted to play with today and chose to use Sugarpill and Illamasqua as they never fail to make me happy and they both make such lovely vibrant products.

Illamasqua Lip Art
Illamasqua Purple Lip Art
Illamasqua Lipsticks in Welt and Kontrol, Illamasqua Liquid Metal in Electrum

I wrote about this effect recently for Hi! Magazine but I haven’t actually used it in a while – its so, so easy to do! Just apply your lip colour as normal, pucker your lips really tightly and then dab a metallic cream or lipstick over the top. It looks great over really matte lipsticks and that helps the metallic product to stay. This actually lasted fairly well on me and I think if I had sealed it I could have gone out wearing it for sure! And don’t Welt and Kontrol look amazing together? (Yessss. I know I smudged my concealer in the corner of the lip. Doan curr.)

royal galaxy 2
royal galaxy
Sugarpill Royal Sugar, Darling, Decora. Illamsqua Intense Lipgloss in Galaxy, Inglot Sleeks (clear gloss)

This didn’t do quite so well as the other one. I still like the overall effect, but it was a bit of a nightmare. I really wanted to pair the rich blue of Royal Sugar with the silver gloss, but using dry eye product around the lips didn’t quite work – it was really hard to not move my mouth and crack the line and still get the rest of the products on my lips! I mixed Royal Sugar with a mixing medium and I think something more fluid and less dry like a gel liner would have served me better here. It was also hard to get a fine line with Galaxy as it’s basically made of small microglitters and it’s quite a thick formula. Theeeeeeen I had trouble with my clear gloss – I used my favourite Sleeks gloss from Inglot as it’s so shiny and wonderful, but it seeped into the dryness of the blue liner right away and looks nasty – luckily that doesn’t really show here! And theeeennn I has trouble tapping the loose shadows on to my top lip, which I had to re-do because I made a mess. Anyway, if you don’t look very closely I still think it’s kind of cool!

If you’re an Illamasqua noob, I’d check out their sale now! They’ve got great stuff starting from a measly £5 including lots of their lovely polishes!

Shall I do more lip art? :D

2012 Roundup: My Favourite Looks

Well, the year is nearly over! I’m still on a turkey comedown and am too lazy to write any new content, so here are my top ten looks of 2012. In no particular order…

Purple Plushie Tutorial using Sleek and Fyrinnae

Bat Romance using Sleek and Sugarpill

Heartbreaker Palette look using Sugarpill and LA Colors Jumbo Pencil

Mermaid look using Sugarpill, Inglot and Paperself lashes

Taupe Eyes and Purple Lips Tutorial using elf, Maybelline and Inglot

Rainbow in The Dark using Sugarpill and Sleek

Love+ using Sugarpill, Sleek and MAC

Government Hooker using Sugarpill and Fyrinnae

Mickey Mouse using Sugarpill, Maybelline and Darling Girl

Cryin’ using Inglot, KIKO and MAC

Ok, ok. These are all pretty out-there looks apart from the purple and taupe look, but hey. I guess that goes to show that I prefer the more out-there looks after all – I was worried I’d got boring during 2012! If I had to pick one, I’d pick the Mermaid look – I got really nice comments from the people at Illamasqua on Twitter (although a weird comment or two asking why I’d pierced my eye?! *shrug*)

Link me to your favourite looks of the year!

Quick Orange Look with Sugarpill and Fyrinnae

Nothing overly exciting today folks, but I liked how it turned out. I’ve been seeing a lot of looks lately with the shading on the inner and outer corners of the eye as opposed to through the crease and I hadn’t done it for a while so I thought I’d try it today. It really makes your lid colour pop and makes your eyes look rounder and larger. Obviously you can do it with deeper blacks, dark browns and navies for a more obvious look but I went quite subtle this time.

Eyes: Sugarpill Flamepoint, Fyrinnae STFU, Moonchild, and Electro Koi, UD 24/7 pencil in Perversion
Lips: Illamasqua Lipstick in Test
Cheeks: Boots No 7 Vital Enlightening Highlighter, MAC Buff, Sleek Contour Kit in Light

Flamepoint is one of my favourite shades to wear with my eye colour and I really like adding a little Electro Koi on the top to give it a little more oomph – I added a touch in the centre of the lid and the glow worked really well with the whole shading concept. Also, Fyrinnae and Sugarpill is just a bitching combination!

How do you normally define your eye looks? Have you tried this method or do you normally stick to the crease/lashline?

A Little Bittah Glittah

When I have managed to wear brights lately, my Sugarpill colours have featured a lot and Darling manages to sneak it’s way in quite often! I’d not used it with any of the Heartbreaker palette colours yet and it seemed perfect, so I  teamed ‘em up:

Darling
Darling 3
Darling 2
Darling 4
Darling 5

Eyes: Sugarpill Darling, 2am and Velocity, Sleek black, highlight from Wet N Wild Petal Pusher, Collection 2000 Glam Crystals liner in Va Va Voom and 24/7 Extreme Liner Pen in Black, Barry M Kohl in Navy.
Lips: Gosh Light N Shine Lip Glaze no 5
Cheeks: Sleek Suede

I’ve had so little time for cute, bright makeup recently that it feels like a treat to wear it! My fiancé said this was pretty and looked like a peacock but he says that whenever I wear blue of any description! I really liked this look but when I came to edit the photos I noticed I had mascara on both my lower lashlines from sneezing and I hadn’t noticed all day! Aargh!

Sugarpill Heartbreaker Palette Love

I was intending this to be a super-huge-mega-awesome post about how awesome Heartbreaker is with eleventy billion looks using it, but I’ve been sick and busy (both separately and at the same time, joy) and I’ve not blogged for a week, so just two looks using the palette today.

This is my favourite look I’ve done for a long, long time!

Sugarpill Heartbreaker
sugarpillheartbreaker 3

I used just shadows from Heartbreaker for the look, but I used different coloured bases – a blue base on the lower lashline and a green on lid.

heartbreaker blues 2
Heartbreaker Blues

Again, I only used shadows from the palette, with the exception of the highlight colour which is from MUA Glamour Days palette. I wasn’t happy with this look at all because it was so fast, but I still though the colours were pretty and a ncie placement even though the execution is crappy.

Apologies for the rubbish phone picture (if YOU can find my memory card, be my guest) but what I’m trying to get across here is how I LOVE how well the colours all blend together in this palette – Velocity and 2am, the blue and the purple, blend together to make a much deeper, cool purple which to be honest looks quite like Poison plum (handy if you’re a PP fan but don’t want to pull a different palette out!). I love how Acidberry and Mochi layer together as well – you can see the gorgeous colour they make on the inner corner of my first look.

I even busted it out on a shoot this weekend where I used Velocity and 2am along with a 120 palette black to make a really easy but awesome smoky eye.

Well. I suppose I ought to shut up about this palette really, but I can’t help it! I’ve not actually bought any new eye makeup that isn’t mascara for so long that this is the newest thing I have in my collection, so I’m still playing with it a lot.
