Too much, even for me!

I was messing around with makeup the other day and came up with this messy glittery eye…

messyblack1
messyblack2
messyblack3

…and I was looking at it and thinking, ‘This needs some serious falsies action.’ So I went and rummaged through my box (oooo-er, missus!) and found these bad boys:

kkcentrehcrazylashes

I thought they were suitably ridiculous and I hadn’t used them yet – I was very kindly sent them by kkcenterhk and haven’t found a use for them yet. Naughty me! Anyway, I popped one on…

WHAAAAAA? They’re HUGE! Like…. ridiculously huge!

I have no idea what to wear these with! If you have a good idea of what I can do with these, then please, let me know. I never thought I’d find a pair of falsies that had me stumped, but I have!

Products used: Black from Sleek Bohemian, Wet n Wild Nutty single eyeshadow, Fyrinnae Polar Bear, Maybelline Eyestudio gel liner in Black, Kryolan Glitter Creme in Black, MAC Reflects Black glitter, kkcenterhk FE108 lashes.

Disney Collaboration with Fierce Nerditude: Pongo from 101 Dalmatians

I was so pleased when I got Pongo for my character this week. I loved the film as a kid, and I loved the book by Dodie Smith even more. (I actually preferred the sequel novel, The Starlight Barking, which is so lovely.) Anyway, I gave Vijaya Bianca from The Rescuers, another of my favourite Disney films as a kid. Also joining us in the Disney madness this week is Rachael from The Beauty Spot, who’s done an adorable look based on Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Please go and give her some love as well!

I used: white Kryolan Aqua Color, black gel liner by Maybelline, Darling Girl eyeshadow in Honey Pot and neutrals from Sleek Bohemian. Lashes are Eyelure Girls Aloud – Sarah Harding (embarrassing!)

I didn’t really want to include the red from his collar, because I thought against all the white it would make me look pretty sick, but I put in a touch of gold just to keep it interesting. I still think this is cute though, and it’s really easy! If you were going as a spotty animal for Hallowe’en I think this would be cool to wear (after bopping you on the head for not going as something scary.)

Thanks for reading and don’t forget to check out Vijaya and Rachael!

Tips and Tricks: Enormous Eyelashes

I love enormous, winged eyelashes but will be the first to admit they're a right bugger to wear. Obviously, they're always going to look un-natural (that's the point!) but here are a few pointers to make sure you're getting the best out of them:

Orange and Black Lashes from KKcentreHK. I haven't worn them under UV yet :(

Application:

- If you have to trim your lashes to make them fit, them try and do it from the *outside.* The really long lashes like these are often curved, and if you trim them the inside the curve won't be as smooth
-Make sure you put plenty of glue on the corners as they can be heavy
-If you're not as confident with wearing falsies, try and choose ones with a thin lash band:

Even though they're enormous, this style of lash is normally on a 'string' style lash band which is quite easy to move around when it's on the eye before the glue has dried...
...as opposed to this monstrosity which has a really thick and rigid band.

Matching with makeup:

-Make sure you're 100% happy with your eye makeup before you apply the crazy lashes as you're not going to able to get a brush around them easily afterwards!
-Even if your mascara doesn't match the colour of your lashes, it's better to curl your lashes and just do a light coat of mascara to help your natural lashes blend in with the enormous ones. Even if you wouldn't do this with regular falsies, these big false ones have an enormous curve!
-The more dramatic your make up, in my opinion, the better:

I much prefer the stronger brow and harsher lines - not for every day, obviously but it pulls the look together.

Posin':

-Naturally, your lashes should make a 'fan' shape, whereas lashes like these all point in one direction. Because the shape is really extreme, if you look at your eye from the side, like below, the curve of the lashes looks really odd:

See where the angle of the lashes on my left eye looks really blunt as it comes away from my inner corner? Not flattering... a bit wierd.

-Also, where your lashes are huge, they can overwhelm your eye, making them look smaller or closed:

Where is mah eyeball?!

I know this sounds really vain and silly, but if you're wearing these, you're probably on a night out or doing a really dramatic blog look and want your photos to look cool! I try and discourage models on shoots from wearing enormous lashes for the above reasons (not that they listen to me! ;) ) Best thing to do is to look straight at the camera and look up from under your lashes slightly - you know, emo kid/MySpace style - your lashes won't hang over your eye and you'll see them in their full gloriousness!

Edit: Beware headbanging.

Hope that all made sense and that it was helpful to someone out there!

Do you wear crazy falsies?

Lashes were provided for review by KKCentreHK.com. Sorry for being a sell out, but they had some awesome stuff I couldn't say no to!

Quickie Review and Swatches: Evil Shades Deviant Lipstick

I really need to give up on the 'quickie review' crap - they're never quick! I think I just like saying 'quickie.' Anyway, feast your eyeballs on the Evil Shades Deviant Lipsticks in my collection.

Silk Stockings:

The last picture captures the colour of the base well, but it shows up like the top photo normally - the sparkles/shift are a soft blue! Really awesome unusual nude.

Fateful:

Fateful is a black with purple shimmer. For a black lipstick (which are tricky buggers) this is freaking ace - no rubbing it over your lips 10,000 times to get some colour to show! The only downside is you need to wear lip liner, as you can probably see, but that's the case with all blacks I've ever tried.

Primrose Path:

Such a perfect day-to-day shade - a peachy pink with subtle green shimmer. The green shimmer makes it unusual enough that I think I'm cool, but it is very subtle and wearable still!

Devilista:

One of my favourite reds! I really think this is a knock-out shade and I like its not-too-sheeny, not-too-matte finish.

Obscurity:

A deep metallic blue. I have trouble with this one - it takes a bit of effort to apply it opaquely, but it's not like it takes ten minutes or anything.  I'm going to try it over concealed lips and see if that makes a difference.

Mage:

It's green. What more can I say? I got a sample of this with an order and I love it! *Probably* wouldn;t wear it out, but we'll see...

Bane:
Bane is a really pretty light pink with a blue shift and I think it's a nice addition to anyone's colection. The formula of this one is really light and balmy and as such is sheerer than the others. Great for layering.

Corruption:

Corruption is a metallic purple with blue glitter (you can see it if you click the bottom picture, it's more obvious in real life). A really cool and unusual shade! This is a bit of a funny one - it is pigmented, but I have to really warm it up first to get it to show on my lips. Bit odd, but once it's warmed up, it applies nicely and doesn't budge.

Corset:

A beautiful wine colour. I love these shades but often find they're too red or too black - this one has a lovely berry juiciness to it. Do you have lipsticks that whenever you put them on you make kissy duck faces at yourself? (No... just me?) Well, this is one of those lippies!

Fearless:

Errrr. How awesome is this? It's quite hard for me to describe - it's very bright but it's sort of... a neon undertone than rather than a omg-my-retinas bright. The best thing about it is it's UV REACTIVE. I can't wait to see how it glows under blacklight. Funnily enough, I don't have one knocking about to swatch it under but I will update this post soon as I've got a UV shoot coming up.

Boring word time...

What to say about these? Well, the first thing I love is the price. They're $4.25 each, so about £2.60, and they're quite often on 3-for-2, so they're a freakin' steal. They wear very well - I worse Primrose Path the other day and it lasted through a picnic and beyond, which is no mean feat, I tell you, and they're not drying, although some formulas are slightly drier than others. I'll reiterate that they're cheap as fucking chips, because I still can't get over what you get for the price.

I should also mention the packaging. Here's the new tubes:

Versus the old tubes:

The old packaging was a bit bothersome - I find it hard to neatly apply some of the colours with the big chapstick round tubes as I have a skinny upper lip (not complaining, of course, as I'm sure the packaging has a lot to do with that awesome price) but the new slimmer ones solve that problem and look pretty swish too. Love the new labels as well - look how far they've come along since the original white ones!

Have you tired these lippies? Any reccomendations?

Swatch Dump: Evil Shades and Fyrinnae

Loath as I am to dedicate one swatch post to two companies, I think anything specific I have to say about them might be a bit redundant by now, plus I am going on holiday tomorrow and I have PRETTIES to show you!

Fyrinnae:

L-R:
Leopard Print Galaxy (Arcane Magic), Strip Poker, Electric Stardust (Arcane Magic), Tapir, STFU.

L-R:
Bite Me, Feline Familiars, Fire Opal.

Okinawa Beauty Lip Lustre

Reincarnation Lip Lustre.

Romantique Lip Lustre.

Buggering, uncapturable Arcana Magic shades - Leopard-Print Galaxy is stunningly complex and beautiful and of course I couldn't capture it! My favourites from the bunch have to be Fire Opal and Electric Stardust. I'm a sucker for a light, sparkly green and this one is so beautiful

Okinawa Beauty is a bit high maintenance, and also I have no idea where or how to wear it, although it would look good applied sheerly, too. I also bought a tube of Pixie Epoxy, and praise the Lawd, my order came on the day I'd run out! If you've never tried PE, Fyrinnae do sell sample pots, one of which lasted me... er, well, bloody ages. And I use it for swatches. You really do need a miniscule amount.

Evil Shades:

L-R:
Filigree, Wyvern, Slyph, Lucia.

Devilista Deviant Lipstick

Fateful Deviant Lipstick.

'Not Your Barbie' Hardcore Lips

I went with the excellent value Winks n Kisses set - you get two Deviant Lipsticks and three shadows (Filigree was a free sample - a massive clamshell full! - and the Hardcore Lips I got separately.)I'd been wanting Wyvern for a while so was glad to finally snap that up. Filigree is stunning - I almost bought it, so was very happy to get it as a sample.

Andrea suggested Fateful to me when I asked on Twitter where I could get a black lipstick that is actually black and won't cost me the earth. I didn't even think of Evil Shades - duh. Anyway, if you're after a good but cheap black, get this one! The purple sparkles in it are subtle but beautiful.

I haven't had time to really do much make-up this week, but I really wanted to try Strip Poker:

Lid: Fyrinnae Strip Poker
Under Browbone: Evil Shades Sylph:
Crease: Fyrinnae Digital Faerie
Lower Lashline: Fyrinnae Digital Faerie
Liner: Collection 2000 Extreme liner in Teal, Sleek Dip It! glitter liner in Carribean

Well, kids, that's all from me for a while as I'm off on snowboarding for a week! I have some more time off when I get back and I'm gagging to do some more creative looks so expect a couple from me when I return.

Keep a look out for my amazing guest bloggers! See you sooooon!

Darkness! Colour! Haul!

First, some looks for you all. Then, a super awesome present from my friend!

After all my pin-up looks, even though I think I do suit less eyeshadow heavy looks, I've been gagging to do some darker, heavier shadow looks!

I had a whole bunch of glitter staring me in the face one morning...

... so I thought I would use it! Sleek black over NYX JEP in Black Bean with red glitter off of eBay. My boyfriend said this was 'pretty,' bless him! Paired this with some random Revlon neutral lippie.

I was desperate to use Hi-Fi Valentine Evenings as a lid colour, and I paired it with UD Bourbon, a shimmery deep brown from Sleek and a silver-grey from Makeup Academy. I wish I'd used black instead of grey, as VE is a bit 'woah' on its own. I think I probably wore this with Devil Horns lip lustre.

Playing with Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy... a quick look using Evil Shades Devil's Bonfire and Fyrinnae Crimson Ghost, with Hi-Fi Mornings of Gold to Highlight and on the lower lashline. Paired this with Boots Natural Collection lipstick in Rosebud, which I still think is an *amazing* lipstick for less than two squid.

I hadn't played with one of my favourite colour combos, purple and orange, for a long, long time! I used Gosh Effect powder in Pineapple (gold), Barry M orange, and Hi-Fi Another Day Another Drama with a touch of Fyrinnae Wicked. My liner sucked but it felt good to be colourful again! Paired with Barry M lip gloss wand in Toffee.

I hadn't used my Sleek Bohemian palette lately, and I saw a girl on the Sleek Facebook page make a gorgeous dark look with it, so I took the matte and sparkly cranberry-ish shades and paired them with Evil Shades Double Barrel. This didn't photograph well but I really liked it! Wore it with BM 'Toffee' again - I'm running dangerously low on this gloss, it may be only the second gloss I repurchase ever!

Anyway, now for my present! My friend Sorrell, who I work with, used to do some sort of fashion styling course, and left because it was a bit hair- and makeup -centric for her. Anyway, that worked out well for me because she bequeathed me with these bad boys:

-Double-stack Kryolan Supra and Aqua Color palettes!
-Dermacover concealer palette
-Screenface foundation palette
-Setting Powder
-Kryolan cake mascara trio
-Some pouffes and disposable spoolies n' shit

Sweeeeeet, right? The Aqua Color palette has basic, UV AND metallic shades, and the Supra colour has one tray of blues, reds, yellows, etc, and one of skin tone shades. I am so happy with these palettes, they've barely been used, either. I am soooooo stoooooked - Sorrell, if you're reading this, I am still making pterodactyl noises! I can't wait to play and explore with these so I can ensure they went to a good home!

Well, have a good weekend, guys! I'm visiting my mutti and vati and then I have a friends leaving do, which I'm sure will be hellish!

xoxo
