Labyrinth Mini Series Part 2: The Worm

The worm is SOCUTEOMFG. One of my favourite Henson creatures ever and there are so many fantastic ones in this film alone – if you’ve not seen it, it’s worth watching just for the fantastic puppetry! (See also: The Dark Crystal.)

I’ve got two looks for him, and now I look at them, I realise I should have gone with a more orangey red, espeically seeing as there’s a lot of red white and blue around today! Ah, well!

Eyes: NYX JEP in Milk, La Colours JEP in Bikini Time, MAC Gesso, Inglot AMC 317, Hi-Fi Cosmetics Mornings of Gold, Inglot AMC matte gel liner (red), Maybelline Eye Studio gel liner.
Cheeks: MAC Modern Mandarin
Lips: Wet n Wild Salsa Lessons

I really liked this look and thought it was kind of cute, but it’s not… The Worm-y enough?

Take 2…

Lid: From Sleek Storm Palette

Crease/Lower lashine: LA Colours Jumbo Eye Pencil in Bikini Time. Inglot AMC 317, blue from MUA Glamour Days Palette, Sleek Glitter liner in Carribean.

Obviously I went for a lot of blue in this look as well, and cute blue brows to represent all his little fluffy bits!

Man, I love the worm! <3

Cryin’

For those kind-hearted souls who are worried about me, you don’t need to be! I’ve wanted to make a look with fake tears for a while, so I thought I’d give it a go.

Eyes: Lid, Inglot AMC 70 over Kiko Long Lasting Eyeshadow Stick in 11. Crease, Inglot Pearl 428 and black from Sleek Circus. Lower lashline, Inglot Pearl 428 and Sugarpill Lumi. Browbone, Inglot DS 478.
Face: Benefit Porefessional, Marks and Spencer Limited Foundation in Ivory, Hardy Candy Glamouflage in Light.
Cheeks: Darling Girl Bronze Goddess, Accessorize Baked Blusher Pretty Pink.
Lips: MAC Viva Glam Ricky Lip Conditioner, Accessorize Baked Blusher in Pretty Pink.
Tears: Inglot Sleeks Gloss and Barry M Dazzle Dust in 66 (matte black.)

They see me posin’, they hatin’…. Ah, sorry about the posing but it sort of went with the look, no?  I had some gross eyelashes that needed to be thrown away and I sort of stuck the hairs together so they looked like they were wet with tears. The tears themselves were really easy to do – the Inglot gloss is very wet looking so it was perfect, and dotting in dry pigment and messing up the lower lashine with the gloss/pigment mix helped finish the look.  I think it looks pretty realistic but I wish I’d gone a bit more dramatic with the makeup overall and done much more bronzer and a more defined nude lip.

What do you think – feeling sorry for me? :P

Quickie Review: Illamasqua Apocalips

On my birthday a couple of weeks ago, I got a DM on Twitter saying I was a winner of their Lust Have competition and that Apocalips was on it’s way to me! I’d wanted it since it came out but £15 for a blue lipstick is on the wrong side on sensible for me, I’m afraid!

illa letter

Gorgeous compliment slip and a sample of Freak – at this rate I’m never going to actually have to buy it, ha ha! Thank you Illamasqua, you made me very happy!

Illamasqua Apocalips Swatch

Oooh, innit pretty? It’s actually surprisingly flattering as long as you’re really careful with application and have no red/pink tones showing on your lip line, which looks a little strange. I’d also encourage a decent cover-up of any redness or blemishes on your chin area as I feel it might make them stand out a little bit more. I won’t lie to you, it’s dry as shit and does stick to itself a wee bit as you apply it, so it’s not the nicest formula in the world but nothing terrible either; this was two swipes with the bullet and then I tidied up the edges, so no worse than most mattes, it just goes on dry as opposed to drying down, if you get me. I personally don’t mind dry lipsticks if my lips are in good nick but it might not be for everyone. If you have to have it yet dry formulas drive you up the wall, I recommend…

Apocalips Flakies

FLAKIES. Srsly enlarge that bad boy. I put a Hard Candy Glossaholic over it on a whim and fell in love. I’m going to have so much fun layering with this!

I’ve yet to use it in a look, but I have an idea brewing so keep your eyes peeled. I’d definitely wear this out to the right place, but time will tell whether I’m brave enough to actually go through with it or not!

Eyes: Lid, Sugarpill Darling. Lower lashline, Sugarpill Darling with a damp brush. Crease, Fyrinnae Blue Footed Booby. Brow and Inner Corner highlight
Cheeks: Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Lover, Sleek blush in Suede.
Lips: Illamasqua Sheer Lipgloss in Torture.

You only get one derpy full-face photo because I’m a total idiot and didn’t realise that one of my lashes had lifted, and you can’t really see it in that shot. I’m not really wearing foundation at the moment because I got a tan on holiday and none of them match! I’m making do by mixing Hardy Candy Glamoflague in Medium up and sort of using it as a tinted moisturizer. Meh.

On the eyeshadow front, *swoon* at Blue Footed Booby. It’s not on the site at the moment, but damn, I love the low-shimmer Fyrinnae shadows. They’re just perfect – get thee Damn Paladins if you don’t already.

Inglot 20 pan Freedom Palette Swatches and Looks

I was very lucky and had some extra pennies, so I thought it was high time I got some decent shadows for my kit. I’m all set for good neutrals, and I have some great palettes with orange/yellows, but I was really hurting for good greens, purples and non-turquoise-y blues.

I love Inglot eyeshadows. The range of finishes is good, the mattes are excellent. They’re easy to work with, good and consistent pigmentation, and while not cheap they’re good value. This palette – shadows and the palette itself - was £81.50 with my 30% pro discount, so I think it’s about £116 without (cannot do maths.) So yeah, it’s not cheap, but you do get 10% off when you fill a whole palette, and I think they get slightly cheaper the more you buy. But compared to MAC for example, it’s pretty bloody good – I think MAC single pans are £10 now, so even if you filled a 15 pan palette, it’s more expensive than the Inglot 20 pan and you also have to buy the palette separately as well. I *know* it’s annoying to see stuff compared to MAC all the time but it’s really the only eyeshadow system with comparable quality I can think of. If you can get to an Inglot store, go and check them out!

Happy New Year! LOTN and my new tattoo!

Happy New Year, one and all! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Years – mine was awesome. We had a Murder Mystery party last night, swapped Secret Santa presents and proceeded to get rather tipsy. 2011 didn’t really do it for me, so I’m looking forward to this year!

Here’s my look from last night – I didn’t really want to do the traditional all-out glitter look, so I, er, didn’t.

Eyes: Lid, crease and highlight shades from Sleek Storm Palette. Waterline, Kiko Longlasting Stick Eyeshadow in 10. Lashlines, Illamasqua Liquid Metal in Superior. Upper lashline, MAC glitter in Reflects Black.
Cheeks: MUA Blusher Shade 2, Accessorize Baked Blusher in Pretty Pink
Lips: Barry M lipliner in 102, Hard Candy Glossaholic in Lush

I loved this look – gutted it was dark by the time I finished it, as I couldn’t get a decent eye closeup.

I can’t be bothered to do a whole post of all the lovely stuff I got for Christmas, but here are a few goodies that I got! I also got a lovely pair of boots from my fiancé which will be in an OOTD very soon.

And my Christmas present to me, a Stay Beautiful tattoo! It’s on the inside of my upper left arm.  It didn’t hurt too bad and only took about 20 minutes to boot! And yes, it *is* my blog name, but I didn’t get it because of that. I named my blog for my favourite Manic Street Preachers song. If you like your men covered in paint and paying guitars, you’re welcome:

I did not, in fact, go out and buy milk. I just went to the gym.

Disney Collaboration with Fierce Nerditude: Dr Drakken!

Vijaya gave me Dr Drakken from Kim Possible this week. I have to admit, it’s not a show I’ve ever watched! I know, a Disney character I don’t know! Shocker. Anyway, I spent this morning watching clips on You Tube and this shiz is hilarious. From what I can gather, Dr Drakken is a pretty shitty villain and hasn’t managed to take over the world yet.

Eyes: Lid, outer V and lower lashline, all Wet n Wild ‘Blue Had Me at Hello’ palette. Crease and highlight, Sleek Bohemian.
Cheeks: Inglot Cream Blush in 81 to contour, Accessorize baked blusher in Pretty Pink.
Lips: MAC Viva Glam Gaga 2.

Hmmm. I quite like the result, but it’s not really what I was going for. I probably should have made it all matte, and had a stronger blue on the lid, but the colours are kind of muted still, which is what I wanted. I still don’t think I can get away with nude lips, though. I think everything just looks jizzy on me. Maybe I’ll try it with a really obnoxiously dark eye, but I think that’s a touch more Jodie Marsh than I want to wear out of the house. Ah, well.

I stuck to the T.V show thing and gave Vijaya from Perry Phineas and Ferb, mainly because he’s a platypus, so go check it out!
