Quickie Review and Swatches: Collection2000 Cream Puff Moisturising Lip Creams

These little beauties have been out for a long time now but I’m just getting round to doing a review. Matte lip creams aren’t super easy to find in the UK, especially with the continued influx of sheerer balm-stain type products, but Collection(2000) have four shades for about £2.99 each. I have three to show you:

creme puff

cream puff 1 cotton candy 2

Cotton Candy (1)

cream puff 2 powder puff 2
cream puff 2 powder puff

Powder Puff (2)

Not the nicest shade on my lips, but I absolutely love this shade as a cream blush:

Fairy Cake (3)

Possibly my favourite our of the shades, a beautiful rosy shade that packs a polished punch but is still appropriate for pretty much every situation.

Ultimately these products aren’t going to sit well with everyone - they kind of have a strange mousse-y texture which feels odd on the lips at first. While they dry down pretty matte, they’re not super long wearing or as dry/velvety looking as a traditional matte lipstick or something like Lime Crime Velvetines, so if you’re looking for something you won’t need to touch throughout the day, these ain’t it. However, this means they’re not drying at all, so if you steer clear of matte lip products for that reason, they’re worth a try.

While they’re not super long wearing on the lips, they really are fabulous as a cream blush, leaving a lovely dewy finish. If you’ve bought these and not tried them on the cheeks, definitely worth a go, and if you’re a cream blush lover in general, the doe foot applicator makes these a doddle to apply as blush on the go.

Have you tried these? What do you think of matte lip products in general?

April Favourites

april favves

Clockwise from top left:

Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow in Heather Mauve – I’ve been wearing this product a ton this month. It’s not actually a mega stellar product in itself, more that it’s suited my rushed makeup routine, which is to say, it’s sheer, neutral and has a little shimmer, so it’s dead easy to apply on the tube! It’s a grey-taupe with slight purple undertone, so it goes with quite a lot of lip and cheek colours, and it’s great to just throw in my bag.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – A favourite in the blogging community for quite some time now, and it’s easy to see why. It does stay put for ages, it’s not cakey, and it’s dead cheap at around a fiver. This month, for reasons unknown, I’ve had some god-awful acne on my chin and this has taken away any redness whatsoever. And I mean really, really awful spots, they were huge!

Soap and Glory Bright Here, Bright Now – Part illuminator, part primer, part moisturiser. I don’t buy the lifting and firming claims whatsoever, but it keeps my BB cream sticking around a bit longer and adds a really subtle glow. A bit of an odd products but I really like it.

Crown Brush C315-A Soft Taklon Foundation – I won’t like to you folks, I bought this because it looked cool, and I wanted it. As a foundation brush, its actually pretty great. It covers large areas quickly and it’s very thin, so great for contouring with cream or liquid products.

Crown C250-1 Taklon Liner – This is just a really basic, thin liner brush, but I love it. I also have the C250-2, which is the next size up. The bristles are well shaped, it’s synthetic and it’s just the right length to allow for nice fluidity of movement. What more for you want for £1.69?

Bourjois Delice de Poudre in 52 – I have a review of this here, so I won’t say too much about it. Subtle, pretty, smells nice, good price.

ProCharts – £12.99 for 35 charts. I’ve never used actual makeup for face charts before, I’ve just done rough sketches. Learning to use these is a bit of a pain, but I can tell already they’re going to help me so much when planning for shoots.

MAC Sheen Supreme in Korean Candy – I wanted this for ages and it just fell into my basket. Everyone knows I love the Sheen Supremes, I basically just want them all. This particular beauty is a punchy orange-red and I luffs it.

What have you been loving this month?

Quickie Review: Collection Cover and Go Foundation and Concealer Duo

An intriguing little duo today from Collection (I still want to call you Collection2000, Collection. Soz.)

Daniel Sandler and Lancome, amongst others, have foundations with a matching concealer in the lid in thier ranges, and I did wonder when I first saw them if we’d ever see a high street dupes. I was pleasantly surprised with this offering from Collection when I tested it out in store, and that combined with the fact that I’ve seen many a rave about Collection face products in the blogosphere lately, and that it was on for the trial price of £3.99, I decided to give it a whirl.

Cover And Go Duo

Cover And Go Duo

As you can see, this a handy little set up! The cap screws off so you can squeeze out your foundation, and a flip top reveals the concealer and a (tiny) mirror. Unfortunately the testers in store are only for the foundation and not the concealer, but for my shade at least, they’re a good match. I picked up shade 2, and there are 6 shades in the line, which for a budget foundation range is actually pretty good (way better than light, medium and dark, at least!)

So how does it perform? Cue scary no-makeup-ish photo:

Cover and Go Duo 2

On your left, foundation and concealer. On your right, no makeup.

My boyfriend couldn’t tell which side had no makeup on. I’m not sure if that was a compliment?! I'm just wearing the concealer around my nose and under the eyes, and foundation everywhere else.

Party Sunset 3

Here I am wearing just the foundation, powdered with Illamasqua transluscent powders, which is very light. This is my favourite way to wear this foundation, I love how it makes my skin look. I'm not wearing the concealer here.

I’d say this was a light coverage foundation and a relatively light coverage concealer - if you have a humdinger of a spot, it won't do the job but for minor blemishes and common redness round the nose or outside edge of the eyes like I have, it does the job.

The foundation is very light feeling on the skin and leaves a slightly dewy finish. It wears well when powdered, which I would really recommend as the consistency is somewhat like a heavier tinted moisturizer, and I start to see shine within a few hours. It’s certainly not one for oily skin. I find the concealer too dry for my undereye area sadly, and it migrates into my eye creases even with powdering, but it’s nice for other things. I’m not overwhelmed with the concealer part to be honest, but I do prefer liquid concealers to creams and I will admit it’s handy to have more options for coverage in one tube. If you personally like cream concealers I don’t see you having any complaints.

The real miracle of this for me at least is that it’s a cheap foundation that doesn’t turn orange, or look orange to start with! Hooray! A lot of cheap foundations seem to oxidise on me which is obviously less than ideal. I also really like the squeeze tube packaging – I’m totally over annoying glass bottles and so on.

Whether I’d repurchase this or not depends on whether or not my skin behaves, but right now I think I would despite not being in love with the concealer. If you’ve got dry to normal skin and you’re not prone to heavy blemishes or acne, you might really like this duo.

Rounded Cut Crease and Glitter Tutorial

First of all, sorry for the terrible photo quality! I did this on a very dark, rainy Sunday afternoon and… well, with this English weather at the moment you kinda have to take what you can get photo-wise or you’d never blog at all! Anyway, not really sure what inspired me to do this look, but I really like this rounded cut-crease shape. It’s a little fiddly to do on my lids which are full of creases, but where my eyes are ever so slightly hooded, I find this shape much easier to do than a traditional cut crease look as I find it easier to make it look good on the outside corners  of my eyes, and keep the look cohesive. If you’ve got creasy lids or struggle with blending eyeshadow in cut crease looks, this might be worth a try as you only  need to blend the eyeshadow on the outside of your eye – there’s not really any belnding on the lid at all.

Here’s the look we’re trying to achieve:

Prometheus

1

1: Get your base down! I’m using Maybelline Color Tattoo in Pink Gold, as I’ll be adding a pink-ish glitter later. Choose a base that’s the same colour as your glitter, but keep it relatively light.

2

2: Take a dark matte brown eyeshadow – I’m using one from Sleek Storm - and softly define your crease, keeping it quite high. It doesn’t have to be super neat as this is really serving as a guideline for the cut crease, and it will aid the blending of the black eyeshadow we’ll be using later on,

3

3: Start to line your lid, and go about 3/4 of the way across. I’m using a pen liner from Collection2000 as I find I can do detail much better with a pen! If not, use the thinnest brush you have. I recommend trying a loose eyeshadow mixed with something like Duraline as you can get a really fluid consistency which will make it much easier.

4

4: To make your curve, extend the line up toward your brow slightly, as if you were beginning drawing a very thick winged liner. Then draw a curve from the top of this line, and extend it across your lid, tapering down slightly on the inside. This is the hardest part as the line can’t be thick at the end of the curve. You can see where it curve doesn’t go above the brown eyeshadow at all.

5
6

5: Now your curve is done, colour outwards slightly from the line. Don’t take it past the end of your eye socket, or too far above the top curve as we’re going to need to blend it out.

7

6: Ok, so now it’s time to make it look smoky! Blend some black shadow all around where you drew your liner – the brown shade you added earlier will help you blend the black out. You can see here that you’ll be able to tell where your liner has stopped. When you’ve finished blending it out and you’re happy with that, take your blackest black on a small paddle brush, make it so the ‘c’ shape on the brush matches up with the corner of your eye and sweep the black in toward the liner and the join should disappear.

8

7: Glitter! Easy peasy, take your adhesive and apply it to the non-black half of your eye. I used a small fine flat brush to make sure I got around the curves of the liner and then simply patted the glitter on. I used Darling Girl Stardust glitter in Prometheus.
I then took a little of the brown shadow again and just ran it along my lower lid.

Well, you’re pretty much done! I filled in my brows, added highlights (MAC Gesso, MUS Stardust) and lashes (Perfect 10’s) and a quick swoosh of cream liner on the waterline to finish the look.

Aqua Splash LOTD with Inglot Shadows

This is a look that I really shouldn’t like – my blending is pretty terrible and the false eyelashes I used were just awful, but I really like it anyway! Having spent a week wearing just mascara and a hint of eyeliner, this felt really glam. I also like using colours not so far from my eye colour, too.

Inglot  DS 478, Matte 385, Matte 333, Maybelline Gel Liner, Collection2000 Extreme 24/7 Liner, Collection2000 Glam Crystals in Le Freak.

Sometimes it’s good to enjoy a look without being really critical of yourself. I think a lot of beauty bloggers do that too often and we get caught up in the idea that a look has to be total perfection. Well, screw that!

Mossy Glossy

Sometimes you just feel like doing something really ugly. Just me? Okay then…

Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Mossy Green, Illamasqua Intense Lip Gloss in Violate, Inglot Sleek Cream in 99 (Black), Illamasqua Liquid Metal in Electrum, Collection2000 24/7 Liner Pen, Pixie Epoxy, eBay glitter.

I could have gone grosser, uglier, and piled on more product, but typically I thought this would be a good idea before I went to work and I didn’t want to run late. It felt good to do something nasty though – I really liked the blobby, glossy eye lashes!
I’ll be doing this again in the near future – it’s fun to play with textures if nothing else.

Would you ever try a deliberately unattractive look?

Ellie Goulding Inspired LOTD

Wendy asked me have a crack at a gorgeous cut-crease, no-brow look that Ellie Goulding wore in Paper Magazine recently.  Despite looking nothing like Ellie and being nowhere near as cool, I thought I’d have a play with that style.

Eyes: Kiko Long Lasting Eyeshadow Stick in shade 10, Inglot AMC 58, Glamour Doll Eyes Glitter in Techno, Collection2000 24/7 Extreme pen liner in Black, Active Lashes Cosmetics.
Cheeks: MAC Harmony, a random MAC pink which I don’t have the name on anymore.
Lips: Collection 2000 Bubblegum.
This was really interesting to do! I have such wonky creases on eyes that I don’t like to do cut-crease or really graphic liner looks as it’s too much of a paint to get it to look even and nice, but I have to try these things once in a while even if it’s just to remind myself that that shit just looks jacked up on my face.  Looking at this, I think I should have brought the wing part under my eye a little so the whole shape is lower and so the undereye area doesn’t look so… empty, but hey.

Well, I don’t think I’d did too badly, but it certainly suits someone more edgy like Ellie! I’m struggling with working out how to create the bleached brow look without using bleach… this time I used greasepaint instead of concealer. I think one weeeknd I might bleach them just for a laugh and do tons of no-brow looks. I know a lot of people hate the trend, but I think it’s beautiful. I love how it changes the face and how it really leaves the focus on the eyes for makeup.
And here’s the original look:

And here's another less scary way of wearing the eye look:

LOTD with Illamasqua Kontrol

Hola, amigos! I’ve just got back from an awesomely relaxing week in Mallorca with my Team Alpha – we did absolutely sod all for the whole week except swim and BBQ and it was amazing! I didn’t really wear makeup for the whole week so I was quite keen to pop some slap on this morning. I had a package from Illamasqua waiting so I thought it rude not to use some of the stuff! I also wanted to do a bit of an anti-summer look as well.

Eyes: Lid, Sleek Crete. Crease/Lower lashline, Too Faced Exotic Colour Intense Shadow in Night Nymph. Highlight, Sleek Pow!. Liner, Collection2000 24/7 pen liners in Black and Purple . Inner corner, MUA Intense Colour Pencil in Lovely Lilac.
Lips: Illamasqua Lipstick in Kontrol
Cheeks: Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Lover

Lillian recommended Kontrol to me and ohemgee, why did I not buy it sooner? I normally don’t have the balls to wear colours like this on a day to day basis, but really, it’s so worth the dodgy looks from chavvy boys in Sainsbury’s! I was worried regarding the formula of it, but it’s actually spot on and goes on really opaque and creamy! It’s reasonably long lasting as long as you’re not eating a huge portion of yakisoba – the ring left round my mouth prompted the Boy to tell me I looked like the Mouth of Sauron. Cheers, love.

Fail of a look, I couldn’t get a single good photo of my make-up but it looked SO cool in real life!

Saturday I am doing a seperate post on, and Sunday was my Kiara look. So maybe Thursday and Tuesday were a bit too similar, but it felt nice to give myself a challenge!
