Beautifully Disney Lipgloss Swatches (Maleficent, Merida, Ariel, Belle, Snow White and The Wicked Queen)

This week I came back from my wedding/honeymoon in Florida, which naturally for me was largely Disney-based! I’ve always been a huge, huge Disney fan and it was a wonderful trip in every way. I’ll be sharing my wedding makeup soon.

Disney have their own range of makeup available in the parks called 'Beautifully Disney,' and naturally I was all over it! It's available at several locations in Walt Disney World, with the largest range available in the Co-Op Market in Downtown Disney, where the products are (loosely) themed into collections - there was a Villains collection, an Alice collection, and two displays of princesses and Disney heroines - and the range includes blushes, eyeshadow palettes, lipglosses, mini lipstick sets, polishes and polish set, brush kits, nail wraps, a gel liner set, a few false lashes and some sundries like sponges and mirrors. Tiana, Rapunzel, Cinderella, Aurora, Mulan, Alice and Cruella are featured, and I also went on a Disney cruise and noticed some glosses featuring characters that I didn't see in the parks, such as Minnie Mouse and the Blue Fairy, (no male characters, however). Some of the range occasionally pops up in UK Disney Stores, and they are also sometimes available in some of the outlets in the I-Drive area in Orlando as well.

Aaaanyway. Due to luggage constraints and not wanting to smash any powder products, I picked up six of the lipglosses! I honestly would have bought them all, and I’m planning to collect more in the future. Each gloss is named for a character, with that character displayed on the tube, and a sticker on the top of the tube and box displays a symbol matching the character as well - a rose for Belle, an apple for Snow White, etc. Generally speaking the shade of the gloss matches the characters personality or the themes for that film - for instance, the Maleficent gloss is purple, Ariel’s is a coral shade, the Rapunzel shade matched the pink of her dress. A+ for packaging and theme here, there are a lot of nice touches for Disney fans and I prefer this packaging, even though it’s just stickers, to both the MAV Villains and Maleficent collection packaging. I feel more thought has gone into it.

Let’s have a close look at each one!

Mistress of Darkness (Maleficent)

A bright purple in the tube, this translates to a sheerer lilac on the lips. Your natural tone will show through, which makes this look pinker. The gloss has very small reddish gold sparkles in which don’t translate very well in photos.

Change Your Fate (Merida)

A decently pigmented orange-red gloss, I predict lots of wear out of this one!

Love’s First Kiss (Snow White)

A dusky pink. I love this shade, it’s very feminine and pretty. If you’re surprised Snow White’s shade isn’t red, it’s probably because Disney gave a red gloss to Cruella.

Mysterious Mermaid (Ariel)

A pale pinky-coral with gold sparkles. Again, one I can see myself getting a lot of wear out of.

A Rose Is A Rose (Belle)

A mauvey pink. I think this is the sort of shade Belle might actually wear. I really, really love this one!

Heartless (Wicked Queen)

A vampy blackened red. How great is this? Glad to see there is at least one shade in the range that will suit darker skin tones or bolder looks!

In all honesty, I wasn't expecting too much of these glosses at all, I fell in love with packaging and wanted to add them to my makeup collection. The Maleficent colour is much sheerer than purple lovers would hope, and I expected the rest of the glosses to follow suit. While most of the ones I’ve got are on the sheerer side, these are actually nice quality, with some pretty sophisticated shades! I love the dusky tone of ‘Love’s First Kiss’ and it’s hard to find anything negative to say about the stunning vampy qualities of Heartless – neither of which are shades I would have expected to find in a cartoon themed line, even if it is obviously geared at adults. As glosses, you’re not going to get stunning wear time out of these, but none of them stain or feather, and they are all lightweight and non-sticky which is great.

At $14.95 plus tax, these aren’t the cheapest of glosses (although some places in the parks they are on Buy Two, Get One Free) but as a beautiful Disney souvenir it was a price I was more than willing to pay and I was pleasantly surprised at how lovely these are.

Would you buy Disney makeup?

Quickie Review: Lime Crime Velvetine in Suedeberry.

A lot of people have been going nuts over Lime Crime Velvetines, with them selling out left, right and centre. I found one on a UK website and curiosity got the better of me!*

Lime Crime Suedberry

The packaging is very, very pretty. I can see the frosted glass getting scuffed up pretty quickly but I like that it reflects that the product itself is matte. The lilac and red colouring is dead cute, and it has a unicorn on the cap of which I cannot but approve! It would make a pretty gift, I think. Here’s what the brand have to say about the product itself:

Lime Crime Application
To me that sounds like a recipe for Sahara lips! I like a matte lipstick, but one that has tips to remove it on the packaging made me really worried these were going to be ridiculously drying. At least I can’t say I wasn’t warned, I guess.
I didn’t want to use a lip liner while I was testing it, but the swatches here are applied with a lip brush. I found it hard to get the colour to look smooth and not streaky just using the doefoot applicator. I applied one coat with a lip brush to get the shape, and then reapplied to get the depth of colour. The product is pigmented enough that one coat will certainly do the trick but I can’t get application nice using one coat. I don’t see this as a problem as I have small lip brushes I use often for lots of products anyway.

Lime Crime Suedeberry
Lime Crime Suedeberry 2
Isn’t it pretty? It’s less of a pinky coral than I thought from website swatches, but as I’m an orange fan I don’t mind at all. Lime Crime do have a history of really inaccurate website swatches so googling swatches of any of their products is a good idea. The product itself  goes on like a liquid and dries very matte very quickly. It really is super matte and I’m not sure if that looks great on me or not yet!
Suedeberry Wear Test

Here’s a shot of me wearing it after eight hours of wear. I had one touch-up after lunch, but that was it. It doesn’t look amazing, but the base of colour is certainly still there and I don’t have an ugly ring of colour on my lips, or any icky goopy buildup on the ‘waterline’ of the lip either like you can get with some products.

Whether you the way this wears or not or not is going to be pretty personal – I don’t like it as I’d prefer to apply fresh rather than touch up as I think the result looks better, and it’s really tough to actually remove this product. There’s no way you’re going to remove this on the go! I’m impressed with how much is actually left on my lips though, as I did notice a bit of transfer throughout the day on to cups/boyfriend. I also wore it the night before the application above, where it survived a workout (yes, I am that guy), a bit of a snog and dinner. In the shower afterwards it went smudgy – you really do need a remover for it. Despite the fact that it’s so long lasting, it’s not actually hideously drying on the lips. It didn’t get to the point where I felt I HAD to take it off. If I’m totally honest, I found it less drying than a MAC matte which wears for about the same time on me (with a touch-up).

Overall, regardless of the fact I don’t think Lime Crime are all that, I really like the product and would consider the other shade. I bought this from Cute Cosmetics for £11.50

*I know a lot of you aren’t Lime Crime fans, and I’m not overly enamoured with them as a brand either. While I really wanted to try this particular product, I know a lot of people choose not to shop from them and I’d really, really recommend Googling them if you’re not sure.

Quickie Review: MAC Modern Mandarin (Satin) Blush

Modern Mandarin just came out with the Trés Cheek collection, which I merrily skipped down to MAC to swatch on Thursday.  I was expecting to come away with Immortal Flower at least, if not more, but Modern Mandarin ended up being the only one which excited me.

L-R: Mac Modern Mandarin, Sleek Pan Tao, Darling Girl Fantasia, Sleek Aruba, MAC Springsheen.

Isn’t it pretty? I love the satin finish and the pigmentation is just right for a blush – not too much, not too little. I was worried from some swatch pictures I’d seen that it would be too ORANGE, but on the skin it actually has a bit of coral to it, perhpas, there’s very little yellow there to my eye which is fantastic as blushes like Sleek Aruba just look awful on me!

I really love how it looks on! I’m really pleased with it – I normally try and steer clear of MAC blushes unless they’re on Fragrance Direct or Cheap Smells or similar as £17.50 is pretty expensive. I’ve no complaints at all with this product though, and I can see it being a favourite over summer.

Darling Girl Love Week: Day Three

If you want even MORE Darling Girl love, Kimmie is having a Darling Girl Love Week too! There's also some swatches of some sweet new DG shadows on Turtle Beauty. Check 'em out.

I needed to do a look featuring Mustang today. The All The Pretty Horses collection that came out a few months ago was super gorgeous and I'll probably feature a few more colours this week.

Why yes, that is a lightsaber. And look, Ma, no foundation!
Eyes: Crease, lower lashline, Mustang. Lid, Mr Ed.
Cheeks: Darling Girl Boardwalk
Lips: Wet and Wild Mega Last Lipstick in 909D Coral-ine, Darling Girl Holo Gloss in Tiger Lily

Isn't Mustang lovely? The plummy shift to it is beautiful.

Not sure about the lipstick combo with this, but seperately it's very nice! It's quite hard doing a Love Week because you want to keep your looks simple to show off the products, but you also have a list of things you want to fit in and sometimes it doesn't all quite gel. Ah well!

A few Darling Girl pretties

Recently, I did a UK CP* for Susan, the owner of Darling Girl cosmetics, and in return she sent me some beautiful bits and pieces which I really wanted to share with you all.

'Stay Beautiful' Kiss Me Tinted Lip Balm
You see that, guys?! Stay Beautiful. That's me, that is! Susan said she didn't know what to send me, so she made me something! Eeeee! Not going to lie... did well up a wee bit! It's a lovely orange-coral with a subtle purple/violet shift. Anyway I'm totally showing off but it's on the site now.

'Wisteria Cloud', 'Flush.'

Wisteria Cloud on lid, Flush over black liner.

I've not tried D.G. glitters before, but this one is really pretty! Both of these colours are gift with purchase colours so I don't think they're available. Boo. Darling Girl always have a GWP for purchases over $10 which I think is pretty awesome.

 'Charming Coral', 'Candy.'

'Charming Coral', 'Candy.'

Looking for a reddish coral blush? *points* There's one right there. I was going to do face swatches but I have some more DG blushes coming in the post and I'm going to do a mega post on them all when they arrive as I think they deserve one, as well as a holo gloss review.

If you've not tried Darling Girl before, I think it's an excellent first time stop for people who are new to indie makeup because there's such an awesome range. Check out the collab channel I'm part of, The Makeup Heroes , because there's a lot of Darling Girl love there right now.

Toodles!

*CP = Custom Purchase. I.e., if I wanted a custom purchase of American drugstore items, I'd send a willing blogger the cash for the products I wanted, plus shipping.

High Voltage Love Week: Day 4

Due to recent customer service complaints, long order waits, orders going missing and ingredient inconsitencies, I can no longer recommend High Voltage Cosmetics.
Even though I'd been told to not wear 'crazy' makeup at my new job... yea. Sorry. I'm not a neutral girl, I'm afraid. And for me, this *is* toned down!

Eyes:
Lid: Aandlang (Norse Mythology)
Crease/lower lashline: Detroit Rock City
Outer V: Solar Power

Cheeks:
MUA Blusher Shade 4

Lips:
Barry M Lip Gloss Wand in Sorbet

Detroit Rock City... mmm-mm! It's a lovely bright aqua that really packs a punch when you.. er, pack it on, but it looks lovely blended out too. I applied Aandlang over a glittery gold base, so in real life, some gold showed through it. Such a gorgeous shade. It needed something else, so I applied a little Solar Power in the outer V. It's a murky grey-purple and I think it pulled the colours together nicely.

Liking the week so far? Bored yet? :P
