LOTD and Tutorial: Purple Plushie

Fyrinnae Dinosaur Plushie Look 4

Picture tutorial time! It was high time I used Fyrinnae Dinosaur Plushie again as I’d lost it for a long while, and I’m currently obsessed with Sleek Sugarlite from the recent matte brights palette, so I knocked this together for y’all. If you don’t have Fyrinnae Dinosaur Plushie and you like sparkly sparkly things, I really recommend it! It’s pretty rad.

1

1. Start by priming your eye (MUA Professional Eye Primer)  and putting a sheer wash of a sheer white or cream colour all the way over the lid and up to the brow(Sleek Pow! from Ultra Mattes Bright palette) – this will help the matte crease colour to blend more easily. I’ve already filled my brows in with pencil (Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil) for the purposes of this tutorial so I don’t look like Marilyn Manson, but you can do this later so you can more easily clean up  any powder you might get in them.

2

2.Apply a dark, long-lasting base in the deepest your crease and lower lashline for your colour to go over (MAC Paintpot in Blackground). This is going to give it more depth and mean less blending – if you have trouble blending mattes it’s much easier and quicker to do this rather than try and apply a darker colour over the top – but try and get it fairly near. A long-lasting base will also set and won’t move around too much as you blend over it.

3

3.Now start applying your crease colour over the black base (Sleek Sugarlite from the same palette). Keep blending and reapplying until you’re happy with the depth and shape – I like to keep mine quite rounded and fade the colour inwards toward the nose. I used the Crown version of a MAC 217 for this step

4

4,Use the same colour on your lower lashline with a pencil brush, and then add black gel liner (Maybelline Eye Studio…something something drama something) to the lower waterline. If you want to apply it to your top lashline as well, blink fairly hard before it sets and it should transfer to the top. Then reapply to the lower lashline.

5

5. Add a matte black to the lower lashline, really close to the waterline – basically you want to stop any purple gaps from showing between your lashes. This will help keep the look nice and smoky as opposed to a harsh “edge” from your gel liner. You can use the gel liner and smudge that along the edge of your waterline instead, but I do find it a bit messy and harder to clean up if I do that. If you want to do that, I’d do the liner first and the purple colour last.

6

6. First apply a sticky base all over your lid (Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy)– basically anywhere where you didn’t apply the purple colour, and then pat your sparkliest shadow on top (Fyrinnae Damn Paladins.) You could also use a loose glitter for this step if you wanted more sparkle.

7

7.Using a damp brush (ELF Mist and Set), apply a light, bright silver to your inner corner (Darling Girl Live Wire from the Only One Can Win collection). Blend it up into the lid colour and take it about half way along the lower lashline.

8

8. Now apply cat liner (Collection2000 24/7 Extreme liner – felt-tip style.) I apply mine from outer-to-inner lid, and then go back and draw a triangle on the outer corner and fill it in.

9

9. Blend out any harsh edges around your crease colour with the base colour you applied in step one and add more under the brow if you need to. If you want more sparkle for a brow highlight, you can use the silver from step 7 and blend it out really well. Add mascara and lashes if you want and your eyes are done!

10

10. I cleaned up any fallout using Bioderma Crealine and applied my base makeup (MAC Prep and Prime Moisture Infusion, Dr Jaarts BB Cream, e.l.f HD powder). Then I applied a peach blush to the back of my cheeks (Illamasqua Lover). If a peach blush is too much colour for you with all the purple, I’d use something more neutral like MAC Mocha or Sleek Suede, or MAC Blushbaby if you want it a little more pink.

11

11 For the lips, I used Darling Girl Wicked Game and used the same colour I used on my inner corner of my eye on the cupid’s bow. I take some on my little finger, swipe it in a downward motion across the cupids bow and then pat it out with my finger so it’s blended. It’s subtle but it makes your lips look bigger and ties the eyes and lips together really well. And that’s your look done!

Pink and Black Sparkle Tutorial

A little while ago, the lovely DemonicSmurfette asked me to do a tutorial of this look on the equally lovely Krystal Johns.

So here’s the look...

The look is a lot different on me than on her! You can't see the glitter, and the pink is more subtle. Krystals lip colour is a lot brighter here, but that’s down to lighting and I also used a gloss over the top of the main colour for the shoot. I also used a different (but very similar) pink on the eye – I used the Sleek Acid palette on Krystal but wanted to use a new colour here - and changed the shape to suit my tastes a little bit more. Anyways, in the words of Mario, letsa go!

1
1. I’ve already put my primer on, and a cream eyeshadow all over the lid. Going with a round shape, take your purpley-ink and start to build the colour up with a fluffy blending brush (MUA Professional Eye Primer, Nyx Jumbo Eye pencil in Milk, Darling Girl Only a Wig, MAC 224.)

2
2. Keep building the product up, and bring it down toward your inner corner. I’ve taken mine further up toward the brow as well.

3
3. Taking a matte white, apply this under your browbone and soften the edge of your pink colour. (Matte white from Sleek Circus palette, Tigi Beadhead The Love Brush.)

4

4. Now go in with your black and really press that all over the lid, taking care to press it into your lashes so there’s no bare skin gaps at the lashline. (Matte black from Sleek Circus palette, QVS eyeshadow brush.)

5
5. Taking your blending brush again, use the product that’s left on it and soften the edge of the black – the purple over the black should give it a nice bluey sheen. (MAC 224.)

6
6. Now go in and line your lower lashline with the purple colour again, taking it right into the inner corner and linking it up at the outer edge as well. (Darling Girl Obviously a Wig, MAC 219.)

7
7. Apply some gel liner on your waterline - you can go in the upper waterline as well if you wish - I just do a really hard blink and then re-apply on the lower lashline. (Maybelline gel liner, ELF Studio Angled Liner brush.)

8
8. Now smudge the liner on the lower lashline, making sure there’s no gaps. You may get a sheen from the purple colour shining through – I quite like that but you can take some black shadow over it if you don't. (Maybelline gel liner, ELF Studio Angled Liner brush.)
9
9. Now for the fun part! Carefully press some Pixie Epoxy or other glitter glue over the black shadow. Leave it for a few seconds to become tacky and then press some black glitter on top. (Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy, MAC Reflects Black, QVS eyeshadow brush)
15
10 – Add mascara and sort your eyebrows out and you’re done! (Maybelline One By ONe mascara, brown from Sleek Storm palette.)

11
11- I used a hot pink colour to stay true to the original, but I later swapped it out with MAC Rebel (Sleek Pout Paint in Port, disposable lip applicator.) Apply MAC Coygirl or any light, cool pink on the cheeks and you’re done!
14
What a gormless face! Hope you enjoyed and let me know if you try it out!

I also hate my other half (who I inevitably have to ask for help) for taking the piss because I bother to enunciate in the video. Avril Lavigne ‘Smile’ inspired tutorial

One last post before Christmas can't hurt, right?

May the powers that be forgive me for this. I’m not really a big fan of Avril Lavigne (I should say I’m really not a big fan) but the makeup for the video ‘Smile’ looked pretty damn cool – grungy liner with a blob of green glitter in the middle of the lids. If you have hooded eyes, this is pretty cool as you can’t see much when your eye is open (depending on your eyeshape, of course) but when you look down you see all the good stuff!
DSCF5661

So that's a loose interpretation of this look…

… except I went with a neon shadow AND glitter rather than just glitter, and did the liner more to my liking. I should have gone with a peachier lip, but whatever. I also kept my brows as dark as I normally would, although I love Avrils brows in that photo. Let’s go!
smile1
1) Prime your lid and, on the outer half of your crease, apply a light layer of cream eyeshadow as a base in a rough circle. Don’t make it too high, you want it to kind of hide in your crease a bit.

smile2
2) Over the top, pack on a neon green – or any colour! – eyeshadow. Mine is from Sleek Acid Palette.

smile3
3) Now take a kohl pencil and draw your eyeliner on, keeping the line thicker on the outer half of the eye.

smile4
4) With some black eyeshadow on a pencil brush, smudge out that line, taking care to meet the bottom of your green patch without disturbing it.

smile5
5) Wing the shadow out at the outer corner – it should kind of frame the green splodge now.

smile6
6) If you want a bit more ooomph, go across the lashline with a dark iridescent liner. I used Style by FashionistA, but you could skip this step if you want as it’s quite a grungy look.
smile7
7) Take the same kohl and line your lower lashline, again concentrating on the outer part of the eye.

smile8

8) Smudge the liner with black eyeshadow again – you can go as nuts and as dark as you want here as Avril Lavigne wears a lot of black on her lower lashline. It just it doesn’t suit me so much! – and wing it out in the corner again. You could join it up, but I just thought this was fun!

Add black gel liner to your waterline.

smile9
9) When you’re all smudged and luverly, put some Pixie Epoxy/glitter glue on top of your blob, and put some co-ordinating glitter on.

smile10
10) Finish up with mascara and eyebrows. I didn’t use a brow or inner corner highlight as I didn’t want it to look too ‘polished’, but you can if you want.

Add some false lashes if you want and you’re done with the eyes! I finished up with a peachy-nude blusher and a nude gloss, but you could go pink or peach just as easily.
