Ravishing: My Red Lip Product Collection

I used to think that, being a red head, I couldn't wear red lipstick as it "wouldn't go with my hair." Once I came to the realisation that nothing goes with my hair, my red lipstick collection expanded somewhat! I love a good red lip - especially as my go-to lazy look when I still want to look awesome is very much in the pin-up camp - but I still am too scared to wear them on a normal day, which is silly when I'll wear something crazy bright like Milani Rose Hip to work, no?

Right. Enough jabbering, more swatching.

-Nyx Round Lipstick in Fire

Gorgeous, creamy, pink-leaning red. I like wearing it with bright blue liner!

-Make Up Academy Lipstick Shade 8

Brickish-red shot through with gold sparkles. Really beautiful with a golden smokey eye.

-Barry M Lip Lacquer Crayon in no 3 Mandarin

-Coral red with orangey sparkles. I heard these were sheerer than their lipsticks, but I find this baby pretty pigmented. Certainly going to pick up the Cherry Red shade.

-Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in NSFW

-Bright red, leaning blue based. The OCC website annoys me because it calls this a 'Primary blue-based red.' Errrr, what? Anyway, I love this colour but I have trouble applying it neatly, as you can see!

- Barry M Lip Gloss Wand in no 9 Cherry Glitter

Light red-pink witth red glitter. Alone, it looks like my lips have measles or something. On top of another red (shown here over Sleek True Colour in Vixen) or even a pink, it looks gorgeous! Nasty artifical cherry smell, but it does fade.

-Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Vixen

-Fire engine time! An amazingly pigmented lipstick for less than £4! Sleek wins cool points.

-Barry M Lip Paint no 141 Royal Raspberry

Deep, plummy raspberry colour with slightly metallic finish. Dead sexy!

-Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipcolor E190 Royal Red

I think this is a pretty true red. I've had this for a good couple of years now - it was my first ever red lipstick! D'aaaaw! - so I'm not sure if it's still available. Edit: I have found it a few places, but it's not on the Maybelline stands anymore

-Make Up Academy Lipstick Shade 1

-Deep, glossy, blood red. A little darker in real life. Has a lot of slip to it.

-Nyx Round Lipstick in Hebe

Berry undertones, slightly metallic.

-MAC Viva Glam Cyndi

Perhaps it's not really a red, butas it doesn't look pink to my eyes, here it is. I guess it's a coralish red. Good for days when red is too scary but you need some colour, anyway.

-Make Up Academy Lipstick Shade 13

Perfect pin-up red for just £1. Again, a fair bit of slip but not you cannot argue with the colour for £1.

-Fyrinnae Lip Lustre in Reincarnation

'Sheer' brickish red with blue sparkles. Ok, Fyrinnae says this is sheer, and I presume they mean the colour, rather than the opacity as I get quite good coverage. I think this is lovely and understated, but the blue sparkles really give it some pizazz!

-Evil Shades Deviant Lipstick in Devilista

Long-lasting cherry red. A really popular ES lipstick and I can see why!

-Nyx Mega Shine Lipgloss in Burdungy

Amazingly pigmented jewel-like burgundy gloss. On top, applied sheerly, below, applied thickly - the lighting is awful in both but you get an idea of texture and that it looks more jewel-like if you apply it thickly. I need to get round to trying this with a taupe smokey eye.

-Evil Shades Deviant Lipstick in Corset

Alright, so it's not a 'red' red, it's a blackened red, but here it is. I find it super flattering and long-wearing, as well as cheap as chips!

BeautyUK lipstick in Naughty

Glossy, minty, slightly orange leaning. No arguments at £3.49

Wet N Wild Shine On Lipstick in 514A Cherry Frost

Berry-leaning with tiny gold shimmers. A freaking steal at 99c. Love it.

Wet N Wild Mega Last Lipstick in '909D Coraline'

I think this is more orange than coral-based, but whatevs.

Cover Girl Lasting Perfection lipstick in 'Flame.'

Possibly similar to MAC Lady Danger? The blogosphere has been going nuts for this line of lipsticks and I can see why. I adore the formula.

MAC Matte Lipstick in 'Russian Red.'

Mother kisser don't budge.

Well, that's all. A humble collection compared to some, I'm sure, but I'm pretty happy with it! My faves of the bunch are Sleek Vixen, Evil Shades Devilista and MUA Shade 13. My wishlist is as follows - feel free to recommend more!

-Mac Lady Danger
-Revlon Cherries in the Snow, Fire and Ice (can't believe I didn't bloody buy it!)
-Illamasqua Sangers
-Evil Shades Diabolical Deviant Lipstick and Push gloss
-Fyrinnae Type A
-Boots No 17 Hot Chili
-Rimmel Lasting Finish in Retro
-Clinique Vintage Red, Red-y to Wear
-Kryolan LC010 and LC009

Guest Blogger: Cydonian

Hey, guys. Missing me yet? Today's guest post is by the fabulous Cydonian of Turtle Beauty, who has an awesome tutorial for y'all that I can't wait to try when I get back. It sounds right up my street so I hate that you get to see it before me!

I had to do something pin-up like for Robyn's blog, right? I mean, she's got the sexy red hair and has done numerous posts on pinup clothing... I also wanted to include orange lips in honor of her focus on them a couple weeks back. What I came up with turned out to be a super simple vintage look. Of course I made it a photo tutorial :)

My blog, in case you're interested (even though most of our followers are the same, haha): http://cydonianmakeup.blogspot.com

What you'll need:
- Slightly shimmery skin tone eyeshadow
- Matte mid-toned brown eyeshadow
- Semi sheer dark brown, just as a guideline for the liner
- Purple liquid liner (you can use any color, but I wanted the purple to contrast w/ the orange)
- Volumizing mascara (or false lashes)
- Peachy brown blush
- Coral or orange lipstick and matching gloss

What I used: Too Faced Shadow Insurance, eyeshadows from Urban Decay in Virgin and Naked, Mac's Superslick Liquid Liner in Smoky Heir and Maybelline The Colossal Waterproof mascara. For face I used Clinique's Anti Redness base, Mac Studio Fix Powder, Maybelline SuperStay and Dream Mousse concealers, and Mac Prim & Proper blush. On the lips was a no name light pink liner, Revlon Colorburst lipstick in Coral and Boots High Shine gloss in Whisper.

1) Apply your eye primer of choice; also, apply any undereye concealer or skin prepping serums as you won't be using anything that would have fallout.

2) Apply a cream concealer to the lids to cover any veins, and then apply the shimmering skin tone shade all over the lid.

3) Apply the mid-toned brown eyeshadow to the crease with a fluffy brush. Use a light hand as you are only wanting to create a bit of shadow and dimension.

4) This is optional, but you can apply a sheer dark brown with an angled liner brush to help create a guideline for your liquid liner. I am shite at doing cat eyes so I do this quite often, especially when the liner will be the focus.

5) Apply your liquid liner. For this I did quite a thick line at the edges of my lashes and thinned it out. The easiest way to acheive this is drawing a line that continues your lower lash line upward at a 45 degree angle, and then sweep the tip of the liner inward, making it gradually thicker as you near the lashes. Then complete the part from the inner tear duct out to meet the edge.

6) Should look something like this, but this is just what I prefer for my eyeshape.

7) Apply a couple of coats of a good volumizing mascara. Focus the mascara towards the outer lashes so that it adds to the "cat eye" effect.

8) Fix any mascara smudges, apply your foundation and your blush. You want a heavy application, but well blended so use powder over top to get that effect. This will give the blush a bit of a glow.

9) Apply your coral or orange lipstick with a lip brush (you'll want this as it's such a vibrant shade) over a lip liner. I used what I had on hand, which was a light pink, as I also wanted to lighten up the shade I used.

10) This is where you have sexy, glossy pin up lips :)

Finished look:

I hope you enjoyed! Just for fun, I took a pic of my outfit. I'm not particularly stylish but it's amazing what a striped shirt can do to make a casual vintage look. If I wanted to really go for it, I'd have cuff jeans and red patent flats to go with it, but I'm lame.

Fyrinnae Eyes of the Day

Hiya
For those who don't know me, I am Lorraine, from the MartianDelights blog. Today I am doing a post for Robyn, she asked me to do a look of the day post. So here it is.

It's a simple one, for which I used Fyrinnae Eyeshadows. I am wearing China Glaze Bogie on my nails and I don't wear brown very often so I thought I'd do brown eyes too.
I used Fyrinnae Sacred from the Dia de Los Muertos collection, and Okapi. Primer is the Amplified Primer from High-Voltage, which is excellent IMO. I have had no crease and the colours didn't lose their intensity during the day.

Lipstick was Hawaii from Providence and Grace, but my lips are a bit too dry at the moment and I didn't like the result on its own, so I layered a brown Rimmel gloss on top of it.

Here are some photos :)

I am not the most avant-garde makeup artist, but I do show some pretty colours on my blog, and if you feel like it, you can even enter my giveaway ... feel free to follow me :) ! Hope Robyn doesn't mind me doing a bit of advertising lol !

Swatch Dump: Evil Shades and Fyrinnae

Loath as I am to dedicate one swatch post to two companies, I think anything specific I have to say about them might be a bit redundant by now, plus I am going on holiday tomorrow and I have PRETTIES to show you!

Fyrinnae:

L-R:
Leopard Print Galaxy (Arcane Magic), Strip Poker, Electric Stardust (Arcane Magic), Tapir, STFU.

L-R:
Bite Me, Feline Familiars, Fire Opal.

Okinawa Beauty Lip Lustre

Reincarnation Lip Lustre.

Romantique Lip Lustre.

Buggering, uncapturable Arcana Magic shades - Leopard-Print Galaxy is stunningly complex and beautiful and of course I couldn't capture it! My favourites from the bunch have to be Fire Opal and Electric Stardust. I'm a sucker for a light, sparkly green and this one is so beautiful

Okinawa Beauty is a bit high maintenance, and also I have no idea where or how to wear it, although it would look good applied sheerly, too. I also bought a tube of Pixie Epoxy, and praise the Lawd, my order came on the day I'd run out! If you've never tried PE, Fyrinnae do sell sample pots, one of which lasted me... er, well, bloody ages. And I use it for swatches. You really do need a miniscule amount.

Evil Shades:

L-R:
Filigree, Wyvern, Slyph, Lucia.

Devilista Deviant Lipstick

Fateful Deviant Lipstick.

'Not Your Barbie' Hardcore Lips

I went with the excellent value Winks n Kisses set - you get two Deviant Lipsticks and three shadows (Filigree was a free sample - a massive clamshell full! - and the Hardcore Lips I got separately.)I'd been wanting Wyvern for a while so was glad to finally snap that up. Filigree is stunning - I almost bought it, so was very happy to get it as a sample.

Andrea suggested Fateful to me when I asked on Twitter where I could get a black lipstick that is actually black and won't cost me the earth. I didn't even think of Evil Shades - duh. Anyway, if you're after a good but cheap black, get this one! The purple sparkles in it are subtle but beautiful.

I haven't had time to really do much make-up this week, but I really wanted to try Strip Poker:

Lid: Fyrinnae Strip Poker
Under Browbone: Evil Shades Sylph:
Crease: Fyrinnae Digital Faerie
Lower Lashline: Fyrinnae Digital Faerie
Liner: Collection 2000 Extreme liner in Teal, Sleek Dip It! glitter liner in Carribean

Well, kids, that's all from me for a while as I'm off on snowboarding for a week! I have some more time off when I get back and I'm gagging to do some more creative looks so expect a couple from me when I return.

Keep a look out for my amazing guest bloggers! See you sooooon!
