Updated: Purple Lipstick Collection

Yeah, some are purple really, and some aren’t. Some are probably pink really, some are probably aubergine really. Shush.

Bat Romance

Another day, another time when I don’t stop and think to myself, “You know what colours you can’t blend nicely together? Yellow and black! Stay away from those!” So, there’s that, but also, BATMAN.

Black and white from Sleek Circus, blue from 120 palette. Sugarpill Buttercupcake. Collection2000 24/7 Extreme Pen liner. Inglot AMC Gel liner (yellow.) Eyelure Girls Aloud Festival Lashes (Cheryl)

I REALLY like these lashes – they have gold fleck on the top – but I kept looking at it and thinking I had yellow fallout on them! Overall, a cool idea but not very well executed on my part. Add a black lip and a cape and you’ve got an easy Hallowe’en look, though! SPEAKING of Hallowe’en, I really need to pull a costume out of my arse for tonight and I think I’m going to resort to something cliché and ‘sexy’ as my big costume night is next week and it’s not ready yet! Off to the shops I go…

Ellie Goulding Inspired LOTD

Wendy asked me have a crack at a gorgeous cut-crease, no-brow look that Ellie Goulding wore in Paper Magazine recently.  Despite looking nothing like Ellie and being nowhere near as cool, I thought I’d have a play with that style.

Eyes: Kiko Long Lasting Eyeshadow Stick in shade 10, Inglot AMC 58, Glamour Doll Eyes Glitter in Techno, Collection2000 24/7 Extreme pen liner in Black, Active Lashes Cosmetics.
Cheeks: MAC Harmony, a random MAC pink which I don’t have the name on anymore.
Lips: Collection 2000 Bubblegum.
This was really interesting to do! I have such wonky creases on eyes that I don’t like to do cut-crease or really graphic liner looks as it’s too much of a paint to get it to look even and nice, but I have to try these things once in a while even if it’s just to remind myself that that shit just looks jacked up on my face.  Looking at this, I think I should have brought the wing part under my eye a little so the whole shape is lower and so the undereye area doesn’t look so… empty, but hey.

Well, I don’t think I’d did too badly, but it certainly suits someone more edgy like Ellie! I’m struggling with working out how to create the bleached brow look without using bleach… this time I used greasepaint instead of concealer. I think one weeeknd I might bleach them just for a laugh and do tons of no-brow looks. I know a lot of people hate the trend, but I think it’s beautiful. I love how it changes the face and how it really leaves the focus on the eyes for makeup.
And here’s the original look:

And here's another less scary way of wearing the eye look:

MUA Nail Constellation in Pisces

Yeah. I didn’t want to put it on my nails today.

Libra Lips

Libra Lips

Random mint green lipstick, Miss Sporty gloss in Punk It Up!, MUA Nail Constellations in Pisces.

Because I do what I want!

I’ve not tried these on my nails yet – to be honest, I only really bought them to play with them on my face. I can say that I inadvertently ate about a teaspoon full of them (slight exaggeration) and I wouldn’t recommend it! The packaging is actually really useful for getting the beads back in and the nerd in me was quite pleased with that. There is an issue with static and the beads sticking to the plastic though, so wherever you decide to stick these, do it slowly!

This, in case you’ve been living under a rock and have missed the caviar nail trend, is what they’re supposed to be used for:

By the wonderfully talented Karla Powell.

I must say I’m keen to see what the next textural trend for nails will be… after the velvet manicure having a seemingly massive flop, I’m wondering if I should take a trip to the craft store and see if I can predict the next trend!

Have you tried a caviar manicure?

Blue and Green Jewel Toned Smokey Eye Tutorial (For Rachael!)

I said I’d do this tutorial for Rachael and I’m not a liar, so here it is.

Blue and Green Jewel Toned Smokey Eye 2

1

First, use your blackest base and apply that over your lid, lower lashline and waterlines. I used Urban Decay 24/7 Pencil in Perversion, because it’s awesome. Just so you know, this step was my total makeup routine circa 2001. No lie.

2

Set that with a matte black eyeshadow  (I used Sleek) and smudge out the edges of the pencil.

3

Next, take a metallic navy and really build that up in the crease so it looks vibrant. I used an Inglot shade.

4

Do the same on the lower lashline…

5

…and join up the colours on the outer corner. I used a pencil brush for this and the last step. Take a little more black eyeshadow near your waterline if you got the blue eyeshadow too near it.

6

Looking straight ahead, apply a metallic green in the centre of your lid…

7

… and the centre of the lower lashline. I used a colour from a since defunct indie company, but tons of companies make a shade similar. Then, take your favourite shimmery blue or green highlight and apply this to the browbone and inner corner of the eye. Again, I used one from a now shut-down indie company but I’d recommend something like Sugarpill Lumi instead.

Now add brows, lashes and winged liner if you need too and you’re done!

Because Rachael wanted to wear this look with Face Lace, here’s the look with some! I just blended the blue colour a little further up the crease so there was more of a gradient inbetween the gaps in the applique.

After Face Lace

And I also kinda liked how it looked once I’d taken it off, ha ha!

Many thanks to Charlotte from Lipglossiping for the Face Lace – you can see another look I did with it along with some other awesome bloggers wearing different versions here! Face Lace are really strange to wear… having some stuck over a fairly big mobile part of skin is a really weird sensation, but you get used to it! While I do think they’re expensive, now I’ve tried them and seen that they’re not necessarily a replacement for creativity and that you can indeed wear awesome makeup with them… I’m kind of a fan!

Behind The Scenes

Photos of me doing makeup and bits and bobs from shoots. This is why I should have a tumblr I guess! I don’t know why people love BTS stuff at shoots, but they’re really popular for some reason and I always love getting them back!

Old photo of me by PUMP photography – I don’t even remember what we were shooting that day, but there was a big old car chassis outside the studio, a spare photographer and a hat… I use this as my profile picture on portfolio sites, haha!

CALAT_Robyn_MUA-63

I taught a class on makeup to some City and Guilds photography students – this is me attaching some feather to my friend Dolly Donnahue.  Their tutor wanted them to learn about working with other creative people. They all got really involved and asked lots of questions, which was fab! And yes, I was shitting it!

Pinupzanie Zombies

The Pinupzania shoot we did at 5.00 in the morning on Westminster Bridge was featured in Vintage Life, Cats Meow, and a couple of local papers– noice. I did Dakota, the blonde, and Hannah in the black dress, as well as Dolly (black pencil skirt and beehive.)

PLEASE check out my awesome talented photographer and model friends, they allow me to play with them and create awesome images, which makes me a very happy and grateful bunny.
