Sugarpill Burning Heart Palette

Recently the lovely Rachael sold me her Burning Heart palette and I was salivating to play with it as soon as it came through my door. I was really interested to play with this palette as I’ve heard some mixed things about the pressed shadows.

Overall, I think this palette does deserve it’s reputation. It’s bright and pigmented, the colours are huge and good value – I didn’t pay full price, but I would. I think I’m going to get Sweetheart.

I do have a couple of small gripes, however. I find Poison Plum very difficult to work with. It’s slightly patchy to apply, and it’s a little difficult to blend. It’s not the worst shadow I’ve tried certainly, but the colour is totally beautiful and amazing and I wish that it was easier to work with. If there is a let down in the palette, it’s this one – and not to blow my shadow trumpet, but I’ve never had a problem with matte eyeshadows before. You can see from the swatch above that it’s not as smooth looking as the others, even over a base.

Buttercupcake is also a tad chalky compared to the other colours, but yellow is a very, very difficult colour. I’ve never tried a yellow that doesn’t have the problem, or one that doesn’t look slightly muddy when  you blend it. You can sort of see that the on  edges of the swatch and my look with it it’s brighter in the middle. I’m really nit-picking with Buttercupcake, it’s a yellow thing rather than quality of the shadow from my experience, but I still think it’s worth mentioning. Flamepoint and Love+ however, I have no problems with at all, and I am head over heels with. They’re perfect – bright, opaque, they apply well and blend nicely. It’s worth pointing out that mattes are always better over a sticky base like the NYX pencils, and if you’re using a white one with Love+, you might find it goes a little pink at the edges, or

Personally, I’d be more inclined to buy the pressed powders from Sugarpill over the loose. I love the loose colours from Sugarpill I have and the quality is nice, but they’re not any better or worse than other loose pigments I’ve tried. With the exception of Posion Plum I think theses are all utterly fabulous.

  1. I love my Sweetheart & Burning Heart palettes and don't give them nearly enough love as I should! I love these shadows, especially Love+ :-)

  3. hm, your looks were very pretty, even with your description of hard blending.
but reading your words about buttercupcake make some sense to me but not everything. i find it like a very "dark" yellow, since i own a few who is brighter, though blending it was never a problem for me.
tried different primers for another result??

though congrats for finally getting the palette!;)//Azure

  4. I love love love LOVE the first look you did!!! I have the Sweetheart palette and I regretfully do not use it enough - can't use it at work! But I love the matte finish - silky and smooth, blends like a dream. I wish Tako was WHITER!

  7. I hate poison plum. It looks lovely in the pan but its gross on my eyes. It just turns to a weird bruise colour :(

the rest of the palette is divine though. I do use my Sweetheart palette more (just cause midori is pretty much my hair colour, and tako is the best white eyeshadow ever invented.)

  10. I love the first look you did...just gorgeous. I couldn't agree with you more about poison plum. As pretty as it is, it's very difficult to work with...plus it stains my lids which doesn't usually bother me...but I have a really hard time getting poison plum off once it's on!

  11. I agree, Poison Plum does apply rather patchy. The one I have the most problems with is Love +. It often looks really pink on me when I want it to be red and it stains my eyelids if I am not careful. Red/pink stained eyelids can really screw up your look the next day.
