Sugarpill Sweetheart Palette: Initial Thoughts and Swatches

Writing anything about a Sugarpill palette is probably massively redundant, but I don’t care! I’ve wanted this palette for a long time and it’s the last one in my collection of those that are currently available, so now I have all the current pressed shadows apart from Bulletproof. In general I’ve been super impressed with the Sugarpill pressed shadows and I know they wear, blend and photograph well, so I had high expectations for this palette from the get go.

Dollipop was the one shadow I was really excited about as I don’t have a good quality, pressed bright pink. I have plenty of pinks that are poor quality, badly textured and that stain skin and brushes so I really wanted this to be good. It’s smooth, pigmented and bright as balls, so, so far I’m really loving it.  It’s perhaps worth noting that Dollipop left a slight stain on my hand where I swatched it over Milk, which is odd as it didn’t stain my eye area. I will update if I find it stains my brushes.

Afterparty I’m less sold on to to be honest – just a personal preference as it’s not my favourite shade of blue. it has a slight shimmer and I’d prefer it to be matte. Performance wise it works wonderfully, though, and I think it’s a nice accompaniment to Midori.

Midori is simply beautiful! It’s not a complex colour at all but I can’t think of anything else I have like it and I have a lot of green shadows. I can see this one becoming a favourite. Like Afterparty, this has shimmer, but I like it much better with this shade.

Tako is the colour I was most intrigued about. Any makeup fan will know finding a pigmented matte white that isn't awfully chalky is practically an impossible ask! I wasn’t expecting too much of Tako but was going to be happy if it was better than MAC Gesso, which is awful. I’m happy to report it’s much better! It’s not super pigmented – you won’t get it to show up stark white without a base at all – but the texture is smooth and it’s buildable, so I’m more than happy.

This is a very quick look I did with all the colours. I don’t know why I keep doing bottom-lashline heavy looks at the moment, I *know* they don’t suit me and I just wish that they did, basically. Anyway, these worked just as well as all my other Sugarpill colours. They just seem to be consistently good (with the exception of Poison Plum which I find difficult to work with) all round – they blend well, they’re pigmented and not patchy, they don’t seem to change colour on bare skin too much like some mattes can and there isn’t too much fallout. I like!

Like the other palettes, I think the colours are a great combination. The blue and the green compliment each other nicely, and the pink and blue mix together well to create a nice deep purple shade. The white is generally useful and it’s actually a bonus that it’s not ridiculously pigmented as you can use it to blend out edges without having too white a highlight.

Tropical Fish Collaboration with Liza: Clownfish Lips!

Liza and I have been saying we’ll do a tropical fish collaboration together for ages and we’ve finally done it! I’m crap with fish and the only two that sprang to mind were clownfish and blue tangs (hey, I’m a Disney fan!). I’d done a Dory look a long time ago, so Liza took the blue tang and I took the clownfish!

I’m on a bit of a lip art kick at the moment as I find it really difficult. Keeping your mouth open for a long period of time is kind of difficult and potentially gross as well. Anyway, that aside, despite a fair few imperfections, I really like my clownfish lips! I think they’re cute and fun.

Black and White

Another look from the Never Too Much Sparkle’s (Wendi’s facebook group) weekly challenge. I haven’t done a black smoky eye for a very long time – to be honest, they scare me and even though I (think) I know what I’m doing most of the time I’m very wary of looking like Jordan/I’ve been punched in the eye. Anyway, I gave it a stab and tried to make the look more fun with some rhinestones and funky lips.

Not too shabby, huh? My top tip for black smoky eyes is to always blend the edges out with a purple or a navy as it stops it looking so harsh. I really liked this look on me – it’s not normally a placement or shaped I do, but I liked it a lot! The lips, however…

..Did not photograph so well. I don’t have the top lip for this look!

And nor did the white ones. I guess I’ll leave that to Jessie J. I also was playing around with foundations that day, which is why I look a bit darker/orange than usual. The hair dye on my head is down to stupidity.

Disney Collaboration with Fierce Nerditude: Daisy Duck!

Old school Disney this week. I’ve got the sluttiest duck in the land, Daisy, and I gave Vijaya Goofy to do.

 

 

Eyes: Lid, MAC Gesso. Crease, pink from Sleek Circus. Lower lashline. MUA pencil in Lovely Lilac. Highlight, lilac from MUA Pretty Pastels palette. Waterline, NYX JEP in Milk. Liner, Inglot matte gel liner with orange from Sleek Circus pressed over the top.
Cheeks: Stila Custom Color blush
Lips: Inglot Slim gel lipstick in 65, Hard Candy Glossaholic in Lush.

Most pictures show Daisy wearing some combination of pink and purple, so that’s what I went with, and I thought it would be fun to use her beak colour as a liner. I found this week really challenging, actually, and can’t quite work out whether I think it’s odd looking or cool. Maybe it’s the yellow liner and I should have done double black/yellow.

Disney Collaboration with Fierce Nerditude: Pongo from 101 Dalmatians

I was so pleased when I got Pongo for my character this week. I loved the film as a kid, and I loved the book by Dodie Smith even more. (I actually preferred the sequel novel, The Starlight Barking, which is so lovely.) Anyway, I gave Vijaya Bianca from The Rescuers, another of my favourite Disney films as a kid. Also joining us in the Disney madness this week is Rachael from The Beauty Spot, who’s done an adorable look based on Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Please go and give her some love as well!








I used: white Kryolan Aqua Color, black gel liner by Maybelline, Darling Girl eyeshadow in Honey Pot and neutrals from Sleek Bohemian. Lashes are Eyelure Girls Aloud – Sarah Harding (embarrassing!)

I didn’t really want to include the red from his collar, because I thought against all the white it would make me look pretty sick, but I put in a touch of gold just to keep it interesting. I still think this is cute though, and it’s really easy! If you were going as a spotty animal for Hallowe’en I think this would be cool to wear (after bopping you on the head for not going as something scary.)

Disney Collaboration with Fierce Nerditude: Mrs Potts

Mrs Potts is your favourite teapot, don’t lie. If I was charmed into an anthropomorphic household item, I’d want to be a teapot. Or a toastie machine…

Sigh. This looks better in real life, but not that much. It was one of those ones where I kind of gave up half way through – I wanted to re-create to pattern on her bottom (tee hee) but the formula of the liners was too thick and it was gunking up my lashes…. Ah well.  I know what I would have done if I were to do it again… a pink lid, like hers, and yellow and purple brows.

Album Cover Art Day 7: Iron Maiden

Now, I didn't pick a specfic Iron Maiden album cover because they are all basically the same:



Something like that. Often dark blues, always Eddie (the mummy guy) and thier bold logo, which I took inspiration from for this look. Why do I like Iron Maiden? Because if you like metal music of any description and you're British, you HAVE TO. Its like, the law.





Again, this was in a total rush. This project was a total FAIL. I was just going to do the red, white and black triple liner, but then I realised I wanted some blue, and adding a lid colour after you've put all that liner on.... yeesh. Anyway, I got lots of compliments on this look today, and I realised when I uploaded these pics it actually looks pretty cool with my eyes open. The lady on the till at Boots asked me if I was 'an artist or something,' which made me smile.

I bought Revlon Colourstay today, and I have some e.l.f brushes waiting for me at the post office (omgyay) so after a week or so we'll see how my skin is looking. Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid has been breaking me out... I hope to the Lawd Colourstay is better for me.

Album Cover Art Project: Guns N' Roses (and NOTD)

So day... er, five is Guns N' Roses. My favorite Guns album iz zees one:



Guns N' Roses are just awesome and this album has three of my favourite G N' R songs on, Civil War, the un-original Don't Cry, which I prefer and Estranged, which has the most badass video where Slash COMES OUT OF A LAKE AND STARTS SHREDDING :) What can I say, I like my rock ridiculous.

Anyway, the look!







I promise you my nose is not that big. Perhaps that is why I look so startled!

I liked this look from far away but NOT from close up! I wanted the white and black liner to be much more crisp. For the white liner I used NYX Milk pencil, and it is not the best to get a crisp line, and then I put my normal liquid liner over it, and that kind of went wierd on top of the Milk. Does anyone know where you can get a decentley priced white liquid liner? Sigh. This mini-project really has been 'Stuff Eden is rubbish at.'

I did finally get my crappy Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid to look ok though, but I am still ditching it. It is just awful, sheer, oily feeling rubbish. I'm going to get Colourstay and I've ordered some e.l.f studio brushes so we'll see how my skin looks at the end of this week!



And as a bonus, the nails I've had on this week. Its the first time I tried to make a shape with my marbling. It was inspired by mysimplelittlepleasures' Black and Silver Turtorial, which I urge you not to click on because it makes my mani look really poo.

Raa ra, ah ah ah....

I know I've been posting a lot but its Gaga time! Makeupgeek.com has weekly challenges on its forum and you can win prizes for best looks, and this time round the theme is Lady Gaga, yay! I love her makeup so much.

So first up is my Bad Romance look and I'll bet its not the one you're thinking of. Anyway, I hated it, it made me look scary, but I did it and it was kind of fun to do, so here it is:





Freaky huh? What do you think? I was going to paint my hair too, but I am soooooo glad I didn't it because took so long to wash all the face paint off, and its still on a load of my brushes. Taking pictures of my lips all the time is really making me self concious about my chipped tooth, too. My lips are pretty thin, so I always pout them out and you can see my teeth. I used Sleek black lipstick and an old Revlon lipstick, with white face paint. I painted some false lashes white and used Gosh Effects powder in Paradise to contour my eyes and cheeks just a little.


And on to my second look! I LOVE this one. I still have it on now. I have to go shopping which makes me upset because I have to take my brows and lashes off. Anyway, here it is:












And its obviously inspired by this MAC face chart which she wore for her Viva Glam campaign:



What do you think? I think it kind of suits me :D Also I used a purple eyeshadow in leiu of the purple blush because I obviously dont have one, and I LOVE it! I've been using my 120 palette eyeshadows as blush a lot. I used Barry M, Sleek and Loreal HIP eyeshadows, NYC lipstick in Snowcone with pigment over the top, and my new Sleek Contour kit. My lashes are by... Girls with Attitude (laaaame) and they're called Madame Butterfly. They're so long and fluttery!


And I have one more Gaga look. I did it ages ago but shall I enter it anyway? This is a response to Myeyeshadowisodd's Paparazzi Tutorial. When I did this look, I had NO eyeshadow or makeup brushes. NONE. I was using my fingers, sponge applicators and Q-tips, so I think this came out well considering. Maybe I'll re-do it! I don't remember what I used apart from the lashes, which are the Cheryl lashes from the Girls Aloud eyelure lash collection.
