Dirty 30’s

I sat down to tidy up my makeup station at home and this happened instead. It was very impromptu so while deliberately messy looking, it’s not as goof as it could be. I really like the outcome though and I might have to re-do it at some point. I was going to practice a proper flapper look but did this instead :D

Oh how I love glossy eyes!

Have you done any crazy/stupid/fun makeup looks lately?

Pop of Aqua LOTD

I did a really cute smokey blue look with brighter blue liner with my friend last week and being the lazy bint that I am, I wanted to recreate it this weekend.

Pop of Aqua 2

Pop of Aqua
Pop of Aqua 4

Eyes: Lid: Inglot Pearl 402. Crease, Inglot Matte 337  Highlight. Inglot Matte 330 and MAC Gesso. Blue liner, dark blue ‘crease’ colours from Wet N Wild 'Blue Had Me At Hello’ palette over Urban Decay pencil in Perversion. Aqua liner, GOSH Fine Art Liner in 11.
Cheeks: MAC Cream Blush in So Sweet, So Easy
Lips: MAC Viva Glam Gaga, MAC Lip Conditioner

I so rarely wear light pink cheeks or lips, but I really like it with the smokier eye.  I actually really like this blush too – before I wished that it were more pigmented, but I actually love the finish and I’m using this type of colour more and more now that I’m contouring with foundation most days. Same kinda deal with the lipstick – I always found VG Gaga very hard to wear personally, but once it’s sheered down I actually really like it, and now I’m wishing I had bought a back up. I can’t believe it was actually my first MAC lipstick!

I thought the pop of blue was really fun, and I was going to wear false lashes but actually, in real life my lashes showed up perfectly fine against the blue liner, so I left it without. Sadly I forgot how much of a pain in the arse the GOSH art liners are to apply - Very pretty, but a total pain in the arse!

Step by Step: Wet N Wild “Shimmer The Night Away” Look

Christmas and New Years are long gone, my annual ski trip has just ended and the rest of January is looking miserably dull and grey, grey, grey. So I have a cute, shimmery tutorial for you, hurrah! All shadows are from the super cute “Shimmer The Night Away” 8 pan palette from Wet N’ Wild (thanks Wendy!) Here’s the look we’re going for:

Wet N Wild Where's The Party

1

1: Apply your primer. Brush the white ‘browbone’ colour all over your lid and inner corner, and then work the silver “eyelid” shade in your crease with a fluffy brush, starting from the outside in, taking care not to go below the crease.

2

2: Using a small brush, take the silver along your lower waterline, making it a little thicker on the outside corner. Then take the pinky-purple “eyelid” shade on one side of a small, c-shaped brush and sweep it about a third of the way across the outside of your lid.

3

4: Add more of the pink-purple to build up the intensity, and when that’s done, take the black “definer” shade on the left hand side and define your crease line and lower lashline.

4

5: Take a blue pencil eyeliner and line your upper lashline, then go over it with the blue “definer” shade.

5

5: Make a wing with black eyeliner as usual, and link it up to the blue liner. Add liner on the waterline, if you like, and blend out any harsh edges with your face powder or a matte skin tone shade. Then do your brows and mascara/lashes, et voila! You're done….

Pink Nouveau and Gosh Light N Shine 5

The lips are MAC Pink Nouveau (thanks Rachael!) with my old favourite, GOSH Light N Shine no 5 gloss. I fancied something really girly to go with the eyes.

I love wearing makeup that my blogger friends have sent to me, it make me think of them whenever I look in the mirror!

Are you brightening up January by wearing bright or funky makeup?

A Little Bittah Glittah

When I have managed to wear brights lately, my Sugarpill colours have featured a lot and Darling manages to sneak it’s way in quite often! I’d not used it with any of the Heartbreaker palette colours yet and it seemed perfect, so I  teamed ‘em up:

Darling

Darling 2
Darling 4
Darling 5

Eyes: Sugarpill Darling, 2am and Velocity, Sleek black, highlight from Wet N Wild Petal Pusher, Collection 2000 Glam Crystals liner in Va Va Voom and 24/7 Extreme Liner Pen in Black, Barry M Kohl in Navy.
Lips: Gosh Light N Shine Lip Glaze no 5
Cheeks: Sleek Suede

I’ve had so little time for cute, bright makeup recently that it feels like a treat to wear it! My fiancé said this was pretty and looked like a peacock but he says that whenever I wear blue of any description! I really liked this look but when I came to edit the photos I noticed I had mascara on both my lower lashlines from sneezing and I hadn’t noticed all day! Aargh!

Purple Party Look and Tutorial

I filmed my first tutorial yesterday! I hate Windows Movie Maker. Haaaaate. I also hate my other half (who I inevitably have to ask for help) for taking the piss because I bother to enunciate in the video. Annnyway, here’s the look, using one of the most beautiful shadows ever, Hi-Fi Between the Stars <3

A Rind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste.

In case you missed our lip swatching madness last week - or should I say last year?- Wendy from Turtle Beauty cataloged all her purple lipsticks and Lily from Beauty's Bad Habit all her reds, while I swatched my orange collection.

After I realised that actually, my orange collection is pretty freaking awesome, I resolved to wear my orange lipsticks out, to work and out of the house and in front of people, to show that it can be done and to prove to myself I am not a bit doolally for owning 50+ lipsticks when I wear about 5 regularly.

I went for Gosh no 82 Exotic on the first day, and decided to pair it with something bright and green. Apart from purple, green is one of my favourite colours to pair with orange. (I like blue too, but I don't think I can escape looking like an 80s hooker if I pair orange lips and blue shadow!) I really liked this look - I think pairing the lips with such a perky peachy blush was very flattering and I felt very summery.

Eyes:
Lid: Evil Shades Whoooo R U?
Crease: Hi-Fi Creeper
Liner: Rimmel Kohl liner in Jungle Green (on upper and lower lashlines), Collection 2000 Glam Crystals glitter liner in No 2 Pizzazz
Lower lashline: Evil Shades Acolyte (over Jungle Green)
Highlight: Pale green from Wet n Wild Cool as a Cucumber Palette
Waterline: Nyx Jumbo Pencil in Milk

Cheeks:
Darling Girl blush in Boardwalk

Lips:
Gosh Velvet Touch Lipstick in no 82 Exotic

Probably the 'easiest' way I've found to wear orange is to keep it simple and try and keep the rest of your make-up in the same colour family. For example, I'd love to try orange lips and bright pink cheeks, but I think it's a bit wacky for everyday wear. Orange lips and peachy cheeks, though - flattering and work friendly.

Cheeks:
Darling Girl Cosmetics blush in Fantasia (<3)

Lips:
Gosh Velvet Touch Lipstick in no 82 Exotic
Primark Well Licked lipgloss in Sorbet

A while ago Wendy challenged me to red lips, red eyes, so I thought I'd try orange lips and orange eyes! I think it worked out pretty nicely! High Voltage Kinky, on me at least, is a really nice substitute for a classic red lipstick. I couldn't get this eye look to photograph - the crease was more defined and you can't. see the duochrome on the edges. Failz.

Eyes:
Base: Kryolan Aqua Color in 508 (orange)
Lid: Fyrinnae Electro Koi in inner 2/3, orange from Sleek Sunset palette outer 1/3
Under Browbone: Hi-Fi Hot Cocoa
Crease: Darling Girl Chococat
Outer V: Dark matte brown from Sleek Bohemian palette
Liner: Hi-Fi Hot Cocoa
Lower lashline: Darling Girl Chococat
Inner lower lashline: Gold from W&W Night Elf palette
To blend above crease: MAC Club Dupe from Night Elf palette
Highlight: Highlight from Night Elf palette

Cheeks:
Darling Girl Cosmetics Fuji

Lips:
High Voltage Lip Candy in Kinky

This didn't quite work out as I had in my head - I envisioned darker eyes, but I was in a rush and didn't have time to tightline, etc. I think it would have been a lot nicer if I didn't have to wear a fucking ridiculous bright pink t-shirt to work.

Eyes:
Lid: Fyrinnae Damn Paladins
Crease: Taupey brown from 17 Glam Rocks eye palette
Highlight: Sparkly cream from W&W Lust Palette
Liner: Evil Shades Acolyte (winged out), Collection 2000 Fast Strokes Liner in Black
Lower Lashline: Rimmel kohl pencil in Jungle Green, Evil Shades Acolyte.

Cheeks:
Darling Girl Boardwalk

Lips:
Barry M Lip Paint in No 54 Peach (blotted)

Well, that'll probably be the last time I wear any of these lipsticks, ha ha ha! Just kidding. Coming up I'm going to swatch my favourite pink lipsticks as well as my favourite reds, which'll be fun, plus a fucktonne of green eyeshadows in another fun collaboration, as well as a super awesome review I'm really looking forward to writing. I'm going to attempt my first picture tutorial soon, too - any suggestions?

What's the equivalent of writers block for a make-up geek?

Because I have one. I haven't done anything creative or even something I've really liked day-to-day for a while. I've got a great idea drawn up as a face chart for Julissa's mask contest, not to mention a million other face charts I've drawn up and would be mad to attempt but want too, not to mention I want to try Jonna's tutorial too. I just... I'm not feeling it, its annoying me at bit.

So, failing any makeup for you, here are a few manis, because I have been feeling my nail art thang at the moment.

Here's todays look. Just a simple one with LA Colours Magnetic Force, which is a semi-matte neon coral with gold shimmer, black striper and some gems, which of course have all fallen off already.

I tried out the on-nail marbling thing. I did a first coat of the base colour, then while the second was wet I blobbed the polish on and made teh pretties. The base colour is Beauty UK Smokey Lilac which is the nearest you will catch me alive to a griege, I reckon.

These aren't a fail exactly, they just didn't come out as well as I would have liked, as I should have used a white base for the flames. Gosh Rainbow did a good job of being the sparks coming off the fire though, dont'cha think?

I loved this mani and kept it on for four days which is a veritable lifetime for me. The little hibiscus flowers didn't show up very clearly, but I think that was the colour combo. I got a lot of compliments on this one, anyway! (And yes, my hand were that dry!)

Back soon with my mojo, I hope! xoxo

Julissa's Masquerade Contest Entry

Julissa is hosting an awesome Masquerade Contest with cool prizes, including some made by her lovely self which I think is awesome and prizes for the runners up too. (I've got my eye on the Fyrinnae Diabolique Masqerade O_o) You have to create a mask from make-up and then make an everyday look inspired by your mask.

Sigh... this didn't turn out they way I had planned and was much more vibrant in my head than on pictures. I was inspired by this shot by Alex Box which is going to make my pic that much more crap:

I wanted something soft yet bright, with a stencil-y sort of look, like picture above, so I decided to have a go at doing something Marie-Antoinette-ish, with fishnet on the mask for the stencil-ly part and to add texture. Yeah... never used fishnet stencils before - you have to really stretch the fabric to get a taught stencil, and I didn't do so good. I decided to blend the shadows into the mask, to make it a softer look.

So yeah... only ok. Maybe I should have left the eyes 'cut out.' Meh. It was a good learning process though, like I learnt how not to use fishnets as a stencil, and touching up my foundation after I'd peeled the tape off was tricky, too. Also its the first time I've used Kryolans as an all-over base, and I liked it.

I mostly used Barry M shadows with a bit of Gosh and Nyx mixed in.

And here is my 'everyday' look. I liked the bronze detailing on the mask more, but to make it more of my everyday look, which is quite bright, I blended it with the hot pink and added black liner as I like a stronger eye and don't often wear soft pinks on my eyes. I'm definitely going to try blending more colours out with gold and copper shadows now, I thought it looked pretty cool. Sorry about the zits, judges!

So go check out the contest guys, its open until sometime in August, so you've got a while to think of an idea!

Lily Allen inspired FOTD and other looks...

If you got the issue of Glamour that had the free Benefit (if you didn't, clicky HERE to win an Eye Bright pencil) you probably noticed Lily Allens awesome 1960s style makeup. Well, my liner skills need some serious sharpening (ha!) so I gave it a little go...

I even tried to draw on Lily's moles! I think it came out ok... on one eye! Certainly need more practice with this sort of thing, and I need to get some more eyelinr brushes as I'm just using a 210 which is too small for fatty boombatty liner like this. I just used 120 shadows and Kryolan Aquacolor for the eyes, and Gosh Darling patted on with my fingers for the lips.

Todays... or yesterdays by the time I post this.. look is using Barry M Orange and one of my favourite combos, the purple and cranberry from Sleek Bohemian palette. Good ol' Kryolan Aquacolors for the liner, UD 24/7 on the waterline and Natural Collection lippy in Caramel.

An green look I wore a week or so ago using 120 palette and a Collection 2000 glitter liner (clicky here to win one!)

And lastly a 'crazy' look using my MAC 3d Silver glitter and a couple pairs of previously un-used falsies, purples from my 120 and Barry M Lip Paint in no 129 Palest Lavender. Didn't really like the look but... meh, here it is.

I can't tell you how much I love this glitter!

Thats all for now kids, don't forget to enter my awesome giveaway!

Love Robyn x
