LOTD: Knickers In A Twist

I tidied all my pigments the other day and was instantly sad that I neglect them so much as I have some beautiful, beautiful colours! I threw on a couple for a warm, autumnal kind of look.

Eyes: Lid, OCC Loose Color Concentrate in Triptych. Crease and lower lashline, Fyrinnae Knickers In A Twist. Liner, Maybelline gel liner in brown (waterline), Collection2000 24/7 pen liner in Black. Lashes, Eyelure Naturalites.
Cheeks: Sleek Suede, Boots No 7 Vital Enlightening Highlighter, with Soap and Glory Bright Here Bright Now as a base.
Lips: NYX Round Lipstick in Saturn, blotted (thanks Kathy!)

I’ve waxed lyrical about OCC Triptych before. Go and get it.

And just for fun, here’s the outfit that I wore that day too. I was on a lovely shoot and wanted to look cute. The t shirt is from Hot Topic and is a present from my lovely friend Rachael who knows me all to well. The shoes are Topshop, cardigan/jacket is really old H&M and the leather swing skirt is from a random little ‘market’ shop.

 

I love this outfit and makeup and having worn literally nothing all week on my face and nothing exciting clothes wise, it felt good to throw on some lashes and some sparkly shoes!

A bit of a poor Alex Box rip off there, but I couldn’t help myself! This was actually my first shoot of the year and it was such fun – I’d been dying to work with the beautiful Nadia and we finally managed to do it just before she moved back Down Under! Lots and lots of Inglot used on this shoot on eyes and lips, with an Illamasqua shadow for the blush and good old MUA Shade 9 for the lovely, shimmer purple.

Another shoot with my good friend Rich, this was such fun too! I was a little nervous because Jasmina is a makeup artist as well as a model, but she was awesome and wasn’t scared off, haha! This shoot was a totally new type of look for me and I think I did okay!

Again, this was a bit of a challenge for me! It took so SO LONG and I still wasn’t super happy with it, but I was so pleased to get to try something like that and to have the change to work on my precision (which still needs work, but I’m getting there!) And as always, the behind the scenes shots end up with me looking like the models mum! It was fun working with Aaliyah who doesn’t normally do mad stuff – she liked it and drove home like it!

I’d wanted to work with this photographer for a while, her stuff is so cool! This is part of her Runes series and the rune for this shoot was Raido, which means ‘ride,"’ or ‘journey.’ Amber is a bellydancer and her outfits were amazing! I wanted to do something “tribal” (annoying terminology but you know what I mean!) and flowing to fit in with the model.

I wore this outfit on Sunday and thought it was really cute, so snapped a few quick pics before I went to a shoot for the day. It was only as I was on the train later on that I realised my most expensive item was my lipstick!

OOTD: Dinner Lady

According to my Dad, anyway. Thanks Dad. I wore this last weekend when I went to visit the folks.

The dress is 70's, but the shape and the collar does give it a bit of a wartime feel. I very rarely wear red because of my hair, but I thought this dress called for it so I went and raided Primarni to find a cardi. I'd check the shop I bought the dress from out if you're in the UK and in to vintage as she's got some lovely bits and bobs up there - this was only £18! Alright, still quite expensive for something that someone probably died in, but whatever.

Callooh and Callay: Amazing new indie jewellery company!

Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll know that Lillian and her partner Claire recently opened a fabulous jewellery store featuring amazingly quirky acrylic pieces .From cute animals to Punch and Judy pieces, they've got some wicked stuff. I sat watching the clock until the store opened last Monday and snapped up my two favourite pieces.

This beautiful creation is Labyrinth inspired. If I need to tell you more than that, then I'm not sure we can be friends any more. Sorry. My housemate at uni had an amazing Jareth necklace and I was so jealous of it. Now I have one of my own, hooray! More Labyrinth, please, Callooh and Callay!



 

And look what else I snapped up! Who doesn't need a narwhal with a beret on? (My fiance say it looks like a Cherry Bakewell but that's just as good in my opinion!) I've called him Neville, because alliteration is always acceptable. If you like cute, they have a beautiful ermine brooch and some lovely regal bunnies!

Lillian is a  friend of mine, so it's very hard for me not to be biased when reviewing her crafts becasue I'm very proud of her venture and want to pimp Callooh and Callay out to everyone I know! However, I can honestly say these pieces are great quality and you can tell a lot of work has been put in to them. The branding is really strong - the packaging perfectly matches the website and the business cards and little stickers are well done and are lovely touches. I know Lillian and Claire have supported indie companies for a long time and you can tell they know that the little touches really count when you're buying something online. I can't wait to see what else the girls come up with in the future and I know I'll be buying bits and bobs from them again soon.

 My sister came to visit me last weekend and we did a lot of vintage rummaging! Here's what I wore to tramp around Brick Lane:

Slime and Snails with a peachy blush is a favourite combo for me!  I wish I'd gone more dramatic on the liner, but oh well!

I LOVE this cardigan - it's so slouchy and comfy. It has really odd pockets... they're inside out, so they're white, like the inside of the cardigan. Really strange, but I love it anyway. The tights.... ah, I love the tights. They lasted 4 outings before they died which is great for me.... they do suck in that the sheer part is way sheerer and lighter than the black part which is quite thick, so they're very delicate up top. Still a bargain at £4 ish compared to the stupid expensive House of Holland ones. Speaking of bargains...

I picked this dress up for a tenner at one of the market stalls in Brick Lane. Vintage shopping in London can be stupidly expensive which is bloody annoying... I hate paying good money for old shit. Anyway, just goes to show what a good rummage can do! I need to buy some pearls to go with it.

Pretty much what it says on the tin. I wore this on Saturday  - I did cheat and take off the shoes to go around the shops and just wore black flats - new shoes are too scary for a whole afternoon of traipsing round the shops! I also changed my make-up in the evening as well to the Mushu look in my last post.

Tattoo tights? Hell yea! I bought them to go with the shoes and I think they go quite well. I did put a snag in them - or rather, my arse did, so I need to see if I can find them the next size up. I abhor one-sized tights - I'm tall with thighs, so I really need a large!

I love a neutral eye with a pop of blue or teal - yum yum! Hope you liked the post - I don't really wear interesting clothes that often, but if you guys like seeing OOTD's now and then that might inspire me to wear something decent once in a while :|

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink

Alright, so I'm writing this on a Monday, but I love Mean Girls and 'Too gay to function?!' isn't the best title for a blog post. Anyway, I pretty much just wanted to show you these:

Ha ha, you have to look at my gross feet. Suede block heels: Primark, £14. Also in tan. Bleh.

I had a crappy, crappy day and these were on my mind - I never normally buy shoes from Primark because.. well, you get what you pay for, but I couldn't resist these. I'll be wearing these with tattoo tights and a black romper, but if you're more trendy than I am, I think these would look wicked with some neutral palazzo pants or as a lairy contrast to something sweet, white and feminine.

Shoot at Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich

Went on a really cute little shoot for a print maker a couple of weeks ago. It's not the most exciting of shoots make-up wise, but the photography was so pretty I thought I'd share it with you anyway!

 It was absolutely freezing that day and chucking it down with rain - poor model! She did a wicked job - we were had to wrap her with blankets and cuddle her in between shots. I wish I'd got a better shot of the makeup - I used the ELF Day2Night quad with a bit of Wet & Wild Lust Palette on the eyes, Benefit and MUA blushes and a slick of nude gloss - simple but cute. I love using budget brands on shoots, it's like sticking it to the man, man! Explaining to people about the indie products I use can be harder though!

Robyn's Rockin Retro #2: Dresses!

Yeah, I have some more make-up and some hair posts coming, and hopefully some retro nails too if I can find the time. But while they're in the making, I thought I'd show off some of my retro/vintage dresses! Yay! Sorry for the quality of these pics, obviously you can't use a flash in your mirror and it is dark as hell today!



-Sailor Jerry style tattoo dress.

My mummy bought me this a couple of years ago down Portobello as an earyl birthday present. I think it was only about £15, which is a bargain as I've seen identical dresses in Camden for about fifty. Anyway, big love for this dress, I've worn it both clubbing and just around and about.



-Vintage Sailor Collar Dress

I think this is my favourite dress ever! I bought it in a vintage shop in Vancouver for about $50, I think. A little expensive for something old but it was my birthday! I'm not sure what period its from, probably 70's, but the sailor collar and the colour scheme means it goes great with a pair of anchor earrings and my Irregular Choice sailor shoes. Ahhh, I just love it :D



-Embroidered Sailor Collar Wiggle Dress

Again, this dress is a present from my mummy. I love sailor style collars and this one is huge, going into two points at the back with another identical embroidered part. I haven't worn it yet because it has a maaaaaaaassive slit up the back and its a bit...well, a lot cheeky. I need to get a slip for it and then I can wear it on my next night out.



-Collectif Poodle Dress

Dang, I love this dress, even though it's super heavy and clashes with my hair. The skirt is enormous! I wore it to a retro bowling alley. for my birthday this year. I also like that it had poodles all over it as opposed to just one big poodle.



-Leopard Wiggle Dress

Everyone needs a dress like this in their wardrobe! Oddly enough grey is one of my favourite colours when it comes to clothing, and as this has teeny little leopard spots on it I love it even more! My sister got me this dress when I went away for a year so I'd have something nice to wear if I needed to, so I rocked it out in Vegas. I need to wear a waist belt with this, though, as I am blessed with a tiny waist (in comparison to my arse, anyway) and so wiggle dresses often don't fit me well there.



-Velvet and Lace vintage dress

I've had this dress for years and years, since I was about 12 and it hung off me! I used to be a bean pole. My dad bought it for me for a Rocky Horror Party from a charity shop (Yes, my parents took me to Rocky Horror Parties - there were a lot of kids about, and who's supposed to look after them at a massive party? And why wouldn't you want to scar your kids for life by subjecting them to bikers in gold lame?) and I've grown into it. A bit slutty but looks great with tights and Docs. Not really pin-up, but it's old so whatever :D



-Spotty Puff Sleeved Vintage Dress

And this is probably my second favourite dress, which I also got in Vancouver for about $50. Again, no idea what period its from, but I love the brown and black colour scheme -it has tiny little brown polka dots all over it - and the cut. Some seamed stocking and I'm done!


I have other bits and pieces, like pencil skirts and a vintage ballgown, but I'm a very busy woman (:S!) so that's all from me for today. Make-up and hair soon, I promise!
