Lucky Dip!

Lauren Luke of YouTube (and I’m sure other YouTubers as well) has been doing a series of Lucky Dip posts – rummage in your storage, pull out something at random and make a look with it! I thought it looked fun, so I’ve done a few Lucky Dip looks for you. I decided to use my indie eyeshadow and keep them to an eye look rather than a full face look – mainly because all my indie shadows are stored together and the jars are really similar, so I wouldn’t be able to tell what I was picking by touch! I’m going to use four shadows for each look, and pick a glitter and a pencil eyeliner for each look as well. Again, these items are easy for me to rummage for! Because I don’t have a ton of bases and brow products, I’ve allowed myself to chose whatever I normally would use for my brows if I need to, and use regular bases like my MUA primer and NYX Milk (but not coloured primers or paintpots.)

Let’s see what I pulled out for Lucky Dip number 1:

Post 1

kingfisher living dead grl persuasion wisteria cloud

Clockwise from top left: glitter from eBay, Silk Naturals Kingfisher, Living Dead Grrl That’s A Fact, Darling Girl Wisteria Cloud, Darling Girl Peacemaker, Rimmel Cool Blue.

Well, this could have turned out a lot worse! The eyeliner and the chartreuse shade worried me, but I really like what I came up with…

First I applied “It’s a Fact!” to the outer half of my lid. I then applied “Kingfisher” to the outer half, and then went back in with “It’s a Fact!” and blended in the middle. Next I went in with “Peacemaker” and blended that through the crease. Then, I took Rimmel “Cool Blue” kohl pencil and lined my waterline and lower lashline, taking it up past my waterline to join the shadow on the upper lid. I then took “Peacemaker” again and blended that over the pencil on the outer half of my lashline, again joining it up with the top. Then I took “Wisteria Cloud” and use it as a highlight on my inner corner and browbone. Mixing “Peacemaker” with some mixing medium, I then used it as a liner and winged it out to join up with the “Peacemaker”/”Cool Blue” combo on the lower lashline. Lastly, I tapped a little of the glitter over Pixie epoxy to give my lower lashline some sparkle.

I think I got quite lucky with this one, no?

That pinky, purply, kinda duo-chromey blue-y one...

When I first got into the online makeup community, I spent many a YouTube watching session lusting over MAC Stars N' Rockets without realising there are a billion dupes for it out there. Not owning Stars N' Rockets personally, I don't have the authoritah to tell you which is the best dupe for it, but I have a few colours in my collection with a similar effect:

Top row: Over NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk
Bottom row: Over NYX Jumbo pencil in Black Bean
L-R: 'Eyelid' colour from Wet N Wild I'm Feelin' Retro trio, Makeup Academy Shade 9, Living Dead Grrrl Derby Wife, Evil Shades Suffocation.

Other dupes/similar shades include Urban Decay Fishnet, Venomous Cosmetics Sea Urchin, Milani Shock, and about 10,000 others.

Of the shades I own, my favourite has to be the Wet N' Wild (Thanks Wendy!) as it's not too purple, not too pink. My favourite way to wear this shade is by applying it over a black base when you've left your crease unprepped, like-a so:

Simple, quick, and purple!

It's also a lovely soft colour applied alone on the lid:

Here I've used the browbone colour from the I'm Feelin' Retro trio on the, er, brow bone, with the crease colour on the lower lashline and blue mascara!

It's great added sparingly to a look...

Here I'm Living Dead Grrrl Lullaby on the lid, with Fyrinnae Strip Poker in the crease and the Stars N' Rockets dupe pressed onto the middle of the lid.

And of course, I love it with greens!

Living Dead Grrl Derby Wife on the lid, MUA Shade 9 in the crease and with LDG Robot Club in the crease and Fyrinnae Madame and Eve to line.

If you need more ideas, Temptalia has a post with 8 ways to wear Stars N' Rockets here - I love the idea of wearing this type of shade with green and gold! Beauty's Bad Habit also has some fabulous looks with this shade here and here.

Do you have a favourite 'community favourite' - one of those shades everyone has in some shape or form?

The power of suggestion....

A few days ago, I reverted to my favourite 'emergency' colour combination of purple and green:

Eyes:
Lid: Hi-Fi Cosmetics Another Day, Another Drama
Crease: Evil Shades Zombie
Lower Lashline: Living Dead Grrl That's A Fact!
Inner Corner: Evil Shades Wyvern

Cheeks:
I THINK it was MUA Shade 2.

Lips:
Gosh Light N' Shine Lipglaze in no5

Nice colours, and I haven't used Zombie or ADAD in an age, but I've done green and purple a lot lately. So I asked on my blog for a couple more suggestions. Pixie_a_la_mode suggested yellow and gunmetal:

Eyes:
Lid: Barry M Dazzle Dust in Yellow
Crease/Lower Lashline: Sleek 'Gunmetal' from Bad Girl Palette

In my head, I envisioned this as more of a soft cut crease with the yellow extending further up toward my browbone, but I got halfway through this look and remembered that Barry M Yellow is horrible. It's just... the glitter particles in it make it look nasty. I should have done this with a matte yellow, and perhaps something like Evil Shades Double Barrell, as I thought Gunmetal leaned a little blue. You live and learn, I'll be returning to this combo soon.

Beauty's Bad Habit suggested pink, brown and cream, which I thought sounded pretty!

Eyes:
Lid: Maybelline Monowear shadow in Sand
Crease: Combination of pinks from the Sleek Good Girl Palette (can't remember which ones, all the top row though!)
Outer V: matte brown from Sleek Bohemian
Lower Lashline: MUA Intense Colour liner in Malt Chocolate
Waterline: Nyx JEP in Milk, white from Sleek Circus

Cheeks:
MUA Blusher Shade 1
Accessorize Baked blusher in Pretty Pink

Lips: MUA lipgloss tube, shade 2

I loved this combo, particularly as it gave an excuse to use the Good Girl palette! I think I should have used a warmer brown as this one looked a bit purple once blended with the pink, but hey. The colour placement was inspired by the lovely SilhouetteScreams, of course.

It's soooo nice to have people on hand to help you choose colours! Feel free to bung more suggestions in my direction.

Upcoming posts, I'll have some swatches and looks of the the Paraguaya palette from the Sleek Avior La Peche collection, a review and swatches of High Voltage Lip Whips and some fun with a Wet n' Wild Stars N' Rockets dupe! Oh, and some pics of stuff I've done for photo shoots if anyone is interested? *shy* Oh, and please take a lil vote on the poll on the left, if you would!

*Insert witty title here*

In lieu of any humour or written entertainment, please turn your attention to some looks that have graced my face this week. I also ask that you politely ignore the stray hairs that have found their way into every single picture I have taken this week.

Eyes:
Lid: MAC Gesso, extended all the way to brow, Evil Shades Sylph on outer half.
Under brow bone: Shimmery shade from Wet n Wild Sky's the Limit Duo
Crease: Brighter shade from W&W duo
Lower Lashline: MUA eyeliner in Turquoise, lighter shade of Sky's the Limit Duo
Liner: Collection 2000 24/7 thing in Teal

Cheeks:
Almay Blush in 130 peach

Lips:
Darling Girl Liquid Kisses in Delight

Zing! This is the brightest look I have done in ages. It was weird to have such bright eyes again but I remembered why I liked it so much!

Eyes:
Under browbone: Living Dead Grrl Woooman
Crease: Fyrinnae Electro Koi
Lid: Fryinnae Leopard Print Galazy
Liner: High Voltage November Rain
Lower Lashline: Woooman/Electro Koi

Cheeks:
Darling Girl Fuji

Lips:
I can't remember! Sorry!

A pretty combination of shadows but I felt it was lacking something. When I work it out I really want to pair Woooman and Leopard Print Galaxy again.

Eyes:
Crease: Evil Shades Filigree
Lid: Highlight colour from Wet & Wild Night Elf palette (inner half) gold from NE, (outer half)
Outer V: Fire Opal
Lower lashline: Filigree/Fire Opal

Lid:

Cheeks:
Accessorize baked blusher in Pretty Pink
Sleek Contour Kit in Light

Lips:
MAC Russian Red

I wanted to use Filigree with Fire Opal and I got Russian Red in a package from Wendy today (Wonder Woman ftw!) so I had to use them all together. I would have felt sexy if I could have washed my hair today (boiler broken. Cue sad face.)

Next LOTDs are going to be some Sleek Bohemian looks!

-_-

P.S. I've got a lot of new followers recently, so if you're one of them, please let me know so I can come and check out your blog, too. You can also follow me on Twitter, @robynheartsslap :)

Wanna fight about it?!

Purple and green one of my favourite colour combinations ever - especially when the shadows are muted, murky or smokey! I do like a bright green and purple look, but for everyday, I use this combo a fair bit.

Eyes:
Lid- Living Dead Grrl Lullaby
Crease- Living Dead Girl Fascination Street
Outer V- Living Dead Grrl Hello Brian
Highlight- Wet N Wild matte pink from Lust palette
Lower Lashline- Living Dead Grrl Fascination Street
Liner- Living Dead Grrl The Same Deep Water As You
Mascara- Boots 17 Wild Curls

Cheeks:
Highlight- Primark The Happy Couple - pink side
Blusher - Darling Girl Pink Outrage

Lips:
Boots Natural Collection Rose Petal

Hair, hair, everywhere.... whoops! I'm wearing this today - going out with the fiance tonight, so I wanted something pretty, which to me equals pink blusher and lippie. Fascination Street is such a beautiful grey-lilac colour - I'm still really impressed with my Living Dead Grrl Shadows.

Eyes:
Lid- Evil Shades Wyvern
Crease- Fyrinnae Blue Footed Booby
Lashlines- Darling Girl Making Merry
Waterline: Rimmel kohl pencil in Lovely Lilac
Highlight- Maybelline MonoExpert in Sand

Cheeks:
Blusher:Darling Girl Fuji
Highlight: NYX Mosaic Powder in Highlight

Lips:
E.L.F Super Glossy Lipshine in Candlelight

This just wouldn't capture - it was sooooo pretty in real life. Blue Footed Booby is really low shimmer, and it looked lovely with the iridescence of Wyvern. In turn, the brightness of Wyvern was lovely with the smokey duo-chrome thang that Making Merry has going on. Ah well.

Eyes:
Base: Nyx JEP in Black Bean
Lid/Crease: Sleek Intoxicated from Bad Girl Palette
Lower Lashline: Ulta Glitter Liner in Purple
Waterline: Nyx JEP in Milk

Super quick and easy look. I rarely use just one eyeshadow (highlights don't count!) but the lovely texture of Intoxicated made it interesting enough for me to wear alone. You don't get to see my face for this one - I'm suffering from The Peelies at the moment and it was particularly bad this day - but I'm wearing peach blusher and just some balm.

Do you have a favourite combination you fall back on?

Blogger Collab: My Green Eyeshadows

We were supposed to swatch our favourite eyeshadows from a certain colour group...

Li-Ann from Sparklecrack Central went to town on her yellow collection.
Wendy from Turtle Beauty swatched some utterly beautiful purples.
Kimmie from KimmieKarmaLove is going to be sexing our eyes with her blues.
Jade from thejadecarver is going all monochrome on us with her greys, silvers and blacks.
Rachel from redlipstickblackliner will be showcasing some awesome red and oranges.

...but I got carried away and just did pretty much all the greens I own apart from my 120 palette. Oops.

All pressed shadows over NYX JEP in Milk, all loose shadows over Fyrinnae Pixie epoxy.

Sleek:

L-R:
Golden khaki - Sleek Bohemian.
Matte kelly green - Sleek Bohemian.
Blue-green - Sleek Original.
Medium forest green - Sleek Original
Deep Olive - Sleek Original.

(The first swatch and the last swatch are very, very similar in real life. Luckily the photo shows that the Bohemian shade is more golden - Sleeks palettes often contain extremely similar shades.)

L-R:
Semi-matte army green - Sleek Acid
Matte neon green - Sleek Acid
Mistletoe - deep forest green. Sleek Sparkle.
Chartreuse-y green. Sleek Circus.

Bottom:
Mistletoe close-up.

L-R:
Black-based green, Sleek Storm
Intoxicated, (Bad Girl) . Another black based green - I'd describe it as magpie feather green!
Envy ( Bad Girl). Black base with a hint of green iridescence.

(See what I mean about bunging in similar shades? Intoxicated is the strongest green in real life, but there's not that much difference between it and the Storm green.)

Barry M and High Voltage:

L-R:
-Barry M Dazzle Dust in no 72 Emerald. Emerald Green.
-Barry M Dazzle Dust in no 95 Parrot Green. Low-shimmer matte green - exactly the colour of er, parrots.
-Barry M Dazzle Dust in Apple Green (limited edition, no number.)Bright candy apple.
High Voltage eyeshadow Star Breaker. Bright, light lime green.

High Voltage:

L-R:
Hanky Panky. Dirty brown-gold green (It looks purple here, sorry :S)
November Rain. Jungle green.
Pirate: Blackened metallic green.

L-R
Rebel Rebel. Dusky sage, leaning a little blue.
Dark Romance. Green gold with black undertone.
Tree Hugger. Bright lime green.
Roadie. Deep green/teal.

Hi-Fi:

L-R:
-Down In The Underground. Complex forest green/purple duochrome. (See the Hi-Fi swatch here.)
Sweet Dreams. Minty green.
Slime and Snails. Light golden green with blue glitter.
Creeper. Dirty lime green.
Living Dead Girl. ZOMBIE GREEN.

Bottom:
Slime and Snails
Down In The Underground.

Wet n' Wild:

L-R:
-Sheer green and forest green from Cool as a Cucumber palette
-Mac Club dupe from Night Elf palette, the same over a dark base to show the green duo-chrome better.

Evil Shades:

L-R:
Acolyte. Deep forest green.
Whooo R U?. Almost neon pastel, brighter irl.
Wyvern. Light minty iridescent green.

Living Dead Grrl:

L-R:
That's A Fact! Bright lime green with orange sparkles.
The Same Deep Water As You. Deep forest green.
Whip It. Medium green with golden sparkles.
Skip To The End: Teal-leaning green.
Robot Club: Slightly sheer, icy mint green.

(I tried super hard to capture Skip to the End and Robot Club properly - they look overly blue next to the greens here. I promise they aren't blue!)

Fyrinnae
:

L-R:
Arcane Magic Leopard Print Galaxy. Greeny-goldy-coral-y madness
Dressed to Kill. Deep green with gold sparkles.
Danse Macabre.
Blue Footed Booby. Semi-matte sage green.
Arcane Magic Electric Stardust. Bright, sparkly silver green.

Bottom, L-R:
Leopard Print Galaxy
Electric Stardust

Well, that's all my greens! Most of them aren't true greens - they're dirty, or golden, or a little bit teal, but apparently that's how I roll. If I had to live with just five, I'd pick Sleek Intoxicated, Fyrinnae Electric Stardust, Living Dead Grrl That's A Fact, Hi-Fi Sweet Dreams and High Voltage Roadie but that could all change tomorrow!

Wishlist:
Hi-Fi: Boom Shaka Laka, Deck the Halls, Storm of Thorns.
Fyrinnae: Bamboo Revolution, Eternal Innocence, Leif, Winter Again, Tyr.
Sugarpill: Tipsy, Absinthe.
MAC: Wondergrass, Velvet Moss
Detrivore: Ectoplasma, Condemned.
Meow: Euterpe, Sexy Time, Sexy Pants, ROFLMAO
Darling Girl: Mistletoe'd, Keroppi, Aida, Showdown

Agh, lets be honest, I want any and all of the greens! Green rules!
