LOTD with Melt Spacecake and MAC Glitter and Ice Cool Palette

All in all, this look is not as nice as I wanted it to be as I was trying some new products and totally buggered it up, but I really wanted to show off this rather gorgeous lipstick!

I participated in a Halloween makeup swap, and my swap partner Channy sent me some wonderful items, including the glitter and eyeshadows seen here. I mean seriously, a MAC palette from the Glitter and Ice collection? This is a bloody gorgeous palette, and you can still pick it up on eBay and so on for not-too-silly prices - the purple and blue shades are just gorgeous. Thank you Channy! She also sent me some really nice Australian items that I'll be talking about soon.

 The reason I buggered this look up is that I was doing an intricate swoopy cut-crease sort of thing, and then I tried to adhere the glitter she sent me using Lit Clearly Liquid base…. I’d not use it before and it messed up all my liner and all my crease work. It’s an amazing adhesive (I'll be reviewing it soon) but I really needed to learn how to use it before attempting something so fancy with it! So please excuse the dissapointing eye makeup, heehee!

 

 

But let’s talk about that lipstick. GREY LIPSTICK, SCHWEEDHEART. I’d seen a lot of love for Melt on Instagram and on a total whim picked up a couple of shades, including this lovely, Spacecake. If you want I’ll do a review on the two shades I picked, but for now, bask in it’s matte grey creme glory.

Disney Collaboration with Fierce Nerditude: Frollo

This week, egged on strongly by Suzanne, Vijaya gave me Claude Frollo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. What a douchebag. And a pervert. As per usual with Disney Villains, though, he has the best song in the film.

This looked SO much better in real life. That's what I get for doing this at 10pm! Sigh. Can you see what I was going for?! I really want to do this again so I can do justice to it and, you know, take photos in daylight. You can't see the grey wing underneath or the different coloured purples, or the red glitter in the inner corner. Siiigh. I like the red waterline, though!

I kept with the villains theme this week and gave Vijaya Ursula. I'm quite jealous that she go Ursuala even though I gave her the character! Ursula is a fucking badass, and she was based on Divine. What's not to love? So go and check out her look here, thankyouplease.

"You're tacky and I hate you."

Ahhh, I love Billy from School of Rock. Whenever I heard or read the word 'samples,' I can't help but giggle. Anyway, this post is about sample baggies, how I store them, bla bla bla.

Previously, I've not really bought that many samples from websites. I bought the big sample set of Evil Shades and while I love all the colours, boy are the baggies a pain in the ass to use. Anyway, a week or so ago I remembered reading somewhere that someone used a pill organiser to depot theirs into...



...and I thought it was an okay idea, and worth a go.

Pros: Can actually see and use all the colours, don't have to faff about in a bag and make a mess, only cost a quid.
Cons: Can't travel with it, as the lids aren't secure and the organiser is sectioned (although I never touch up my eyeshadow anyway), lids are fiddly to open.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy with it. It's full up now I put my She Space stuff in it - I also had the genius idea to put the sticker from the baggie on the lid :| I've actually been using my samples this week so that's good. I can feel happy buying more now that I know they'll be used. But if you did want to use yours up you could make:


-Nail Polish



Hooray for MUA £1 clear polish! This one I made with Hi-Fi Aphrodisiac (sample) and Barry M Old Gold. A bit sheer, but a lovely muted aubergine-y colour with green and gold sparkles. Think it would look better over a black base. Plus it kind of 'gathers' at the cuticles and tips and makes me look a bit grotty. But it's the first polish I ever made, so yay!




For this one I used samples of Evil Shades Suffocation and Hi-Fi's #1 Hit Single. It was really pretty but again, sheer, so here I'm wearing it over Barry M's grey. I got complimented on it by a lady at work and she asked where I got it and was amazed when I told her I made it. If anyone has any tips on how to get these bad boys more opaque I'd love to hear them!

Over Rimmel Jungle Green liner, but it's pretty opaque anyway.

Awesome, huh? This came out exactly as I wanted it in my head. I used my Evil Shades Acolyte and Whooo R U? samples mixed with clear gloss, a touch of some goopy ELF gloss and a Milani Gloss with burgundy glitters in, which you can't see here but look awesome. I think making a green gloss is perfect use for ES pigments, no? Yes, yes, yes, I know you can BUY a green gloss from Evil Shades, but whatever. I just can't bring myself to fork out for one, even though I very nearly bought the new one from Hi-Fi.


Anyway, that's my little bid to actually USE all my make-up. Hooray! Even though to make the gloss and polishes I only use a tiny bit! Oh well. Add than and the fact that today I ordered Hi-Fi's Hallowe'en set (only sample size, sadly) and my boyfriend let me buy some Fyrinnae.... and then put me on a ban for a while... I'm not doing so well. Oh well. I've got...

I really liked this look. I know people don't think of green as being a very autumnal colour, but I really wanted to paired Dressed to Kill with some coppers or reds at some point, and it has a lot of gold shot through it too. It was a pain in the butt to get to stick, thank god for Pixie Epoxy!

In a bid to use my samples more (post coming up) I did a full Evil Shades eye. I'd not used Nymphette before and it's a totally gorgeous liner shade. I guess this is quite neutral and toned down for me, but I really liked it.


Plans for the weekend, peeps? I was going to go out tomorrow but I've been having really pooey dizzy spells so I think that plan is on the back burner. I'm hoping to drag my bloke to Camden to lust after corsets and cyber goth crap and try to persuade him that I really, really, really need high heeled Doc Martens on our next snowboarding trip. Failing that, make cup cakes. Gotta have a plan B.

Darkness! Colour! Haul!

First, some looks for you all. Then, a super awesome present from my friend!


After all my pin-up looks, even though I think I do suit less eyeshadow heavy looks, I've been gagging to do some darker, heavier shadow looks!


I had a whole bunch of glitter staring me in the face one morning...




... so I thought I would use it! Sleek black over NYX JEP in Black Bean with red glitter off of eBay. My boyfriend said this was 'pretty,' bless him! Paired this with some random Revlon neutral lippie.




I was desperate to use Hi-Fi Valentine Evenings as a lid colour, and I paired it with UD Bourbon, a shimmery deep brown from Sleek and a silver-grey from Makeup Academy. I wish I'd used black instead of grey, as VE is a bit 'woah' on its own. I think I probably wore this with Devil Horns lip lustre.







Playing with Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy... a quick look using Evil Shades Devil's Bonfire and Fyrinnae Crimson Ghost, with Hi-Fi Mornings of Gold to Highlight and on the lower lashline. Paired this with Boots Natural Collection lipstick in Rosebud, which I still think is an *amazing* lipstick for less than two squid.





I hadn't played with one of my favourite colour combos, purple and orange, for a long, long time! I used Gosh Effect powder in Pineapple (gold), Barry M orange, and Hi-Fi Another Day Another Drama with a touch of Fyrinnae Wicked. My liner sucked but it felt good to be colourful again! Paired with Barry M lip gloss wand in Toffee.





I hadn't used my Sleek Bohemian palette lately, and I saw a girl on the Sleek Facebook page make a gorgeous dark look with it, so I took the matte and sparkly cranberry-ish shades and paired them with Evil Shades Double Barrel. This didn't photograph well but I really liked it! Wore it with BM 'Toffee' again - I'm running dangerously low on this gloss, it may be only the second gloss I repurchase ever!


Anyway, now for my present! My friend Sorrell, who I work with, used to do some sort of fashion styling course, and left because it was a bit hair- and makeup -centric for her. Anyway, that worked out well for me because she bequeathed me with these bad boys:




-Double-stack Kryolan Supra and Aqua Color palettes!
-Dermacover concealer palette
-Screenface foundation palette
-Setting Powder
-Kryolan cake mascara trio
-Some pouffes and disposable spoolies n' shit


Sweeeeeet, right? The Aqua Color palette has basic, UV AND metallic shades, and the Supra colour has one tray of blues, reds, yellows, etc, and one of skin tone shades. I am so happy with these palettes, they've barely been used, either. I am soooooo stoooooked - Sorrell, if you're reading this, I am still making pterodactyl noises! I can't wait to play and explore with these so I can ensure they went to a good home!

Robyn's Rockin' Retro #6: Some Kinda Psycho

I absolutely love the psychobilly style, although I find it really, really hard to define. I guess I'd describe it as rockabilly plus punk plus hot rod with a bit of a zombie twist! Think amped-up old Hollywood style make-up and dresses with massive pompadours, leopard print, skulls, brothel creepers, tattoos, blah.

Anyway, I've seen girls rocking the psychobilly look with all kinds of make-up, but the classic black/liner red lips is still pretty common. So here are my pin-up looks with a bit of a twist!

There's been a distinct lack of red lips in this series! Basically this look is just amping up the classic pin-up look - I winged my liner out a lot more than I normally would, packed grey and black into the crease and gave my lips a lot of love!

This look was inspired by hollywoodnoirmakeup's Green Smoke tutorial, which I absolutely adored. Did not have time to do a proper cut crease, though, this was done super quick but I really liked how it came out. I paired it with a red gloss - I am still really afraid of red lips for the day, I don't know why! I think it's quite a lot with my hair, perhaps.

Pretty in Pink:



I wanted to do the same style/technique of make-up I've been doing with my pin-up looks, i.e., simple eyes, strong lips, but with different colours. I think you can still tell what era it was inspired by, especially with accessories like hair flowers, bandannas, etc. Dita Von Teese often uses a purple in her crease, but less girly and bright than this! I may do a Dita look if I have time this week with purple shadows.

Sprry about my eye bags! Anyway, I looooved this look. I think its such an awesome psychobilly colour combo - purple and green is very zombie glam, no? I did try red lips with this, and I sort of liked it, but I had to go to work in my lovely bright pink work shirt, and I really wasn't feeling it.

P.S: I'm not going to bother listing certain make-up items any more. I always use Revlon Colorstay in 150 Buff, I always use UDPP, I generally always use NYX JEP in Milk and at the moment I generally use Lancome Hypnose. I don't think we all care that much what foundation, etc each other uses unless we're looking for a new one. And, you know, I'm lazy.

LOTD: Pink and Grey

Ok, so this is yesterdays look. Today I'm wearing orange with brown in the crease and a purple glitter cat-eye liner, but it didn't turn out quite how I wanted it, so no picture for you. Anyway, yesterdays look was inspired by this MAC face chart:



It's Lady Gagas look from the latest Viva Glam campaign. I LOVE the pink brows and next time I go clubbing or dancing I'm going to try this, coloured brows are so fun, and you can keep the rest of your make-up simple. I normally just mix pigments with water, colour in my brows, and add a lick of clear mascara, but I have bum-fluff blonde eyebrows, so its not difficult for me.

I wanted just to do the pink and grey, which I think is a gorgeous colour combination. I'm trying to make an effort to use my 120 palette a lot more than I have, but I'm finding it difficult as the colours seem really hard to blend. I tried to blend the pink and grey together with a brown, but it felt like the brown just wouldn't apply. Its really hard to layer these shadows and I had to use a black from one of my Sleek palettes in my outer V as the crappy black from the 120 just wouldn't co-operate. (Fear not, I sent it to bed with no dinner.) The matte colours in the palette are reeeeeally hard to work with, and I hope I get better payoff when my NYX pencils come. I still think the palette is great value, and I love the shimmers. Anyway, the look....








I suck at taking photos of my make-up! Flash or no flash? It's never representative. Still, you get to see me in my jim-jams, so I think thats a fair trade, no? I had to scrap the pink lips and brows because I was going to work but I think its come across very soft and pretty. I just did a nude lip with my Barry M lip paint in Golden Bronze, and a swoosh of Benefit 10 to give me a bit of a glow.


Theres two pics of my face because one is a (dorky) attempt to show you my nails. Zebra striped nails are so bloody easy to do, and look great. The pink nail polish is No 272, Shocking Pink, by Barry M, which I totally adore and is much more vibrant than my camera wants to pick up. Barry M nail polishes are a bargain, if you haven't checked them out before. They're only £3 each and the range of colours is fantastic. Its mainly creme colours, but they have some shimmers and glitters and the range is pretty consistent, apart from the yellow colour they have which takes about 59202847401 coats to become opaque. (I grounded it, and it shan't be watching any television.)
