No Mirror Makeup Challenge!

It is what it says on the tin…. do your makeup with no mirror, film it, allow people to laugh. It was actually pretty horrible to do, some things feel very strange indeed and the heightened risk of poking yourself in the eye wasn’t fun either! However, I think I did pretty well! I did go easy on myself and choose my simplest, everyday look to do though.

See how I got on in the video!

Oh god….

mail.google.com

Eeeeee… it looks okay if you look at it really quickly and then look away, haha! I was surprised at my lips, I think they went pretty well except I overdrew the cupids bow a lot on my right hand side. My brows are just awful though!

If any of you odd people want to know what I used, the eyes are the MUA Undress Me Too palette, brows are Rimmel Hazel pencil, cheeks are Sleek Suede and Boots No 7 Vital Enlightening Highlighter (LE 2012) and lips are Lime Crime Red Velvet.

Have you done this? Link me below!

New Vlog: Illamasqua Favourites

The new Illamasqua collection launches today and I'm eyeing a fair few things from the line! The lovely green lipgloss in Shoot has got 'cult classic' written all over it and everyone is going nuts over the 'mini egg' polishes already - it's really hard to get indie polishes in the UK so unusual glitter finishes are pretty rare over here.

In light of the launch, I decided to film my favourite Illamasqua products. OK, it's mostly lip stuff, but what did you expect? My earrings which are rather rude and childish are by Gogo Philips at Topshop, FYI.

What are your Illamasqua favourites? Anything to recommend me that I can add to my horrendously long list?

Kathy came to stay!

Kathy came to stay with me this weekend with her husband Greg and friend Stephen on their way to a metal festival in Germany.

Keep scrollin’, there be makeup shit at the bottom!

robyn and kathy

Me and Kathy! I didn’t take many photos (especially not round London cos I know what stuff looks like by now!) but I had to grab one of both of us.

hoop dude

We went to Selfridges to look at expensive shit and because it was the Jubilee weekend, they had tons of stuff going on. A marching band wandered through the store at one point and then I noticed this guy who I’d seen at an event before. He is Fucking. Brilliant. He’s basically a really camp guy in a strong man suit, complete with adorably oversized moustache doing a hoop routine – SO funny.

jelleh beans

We went to the food court and got some freaking lush macaroons, and they had normal shit like a crown made of jelly beans!

d and d

We’re all shameless nerds and love D&D, and Greg ran an encounter for us in which we didn’t die horribly, so that was good.

kathy does my makeup

And now on to the good shit! Makeup! I look half asleep in this because I was dead relaxed! It was fun to do each others makeup because that’s how we “met.” Here’s the look Kathy did on me:

kathy purple 2

kathy purple

MUA Eye Primer, Nyx Crimson Amulet Palette for Dark Shadows (purple on the lid, green in the crease). Tarte for True Blood palette (Moss, outer lid). MAC Designer Purple Pearlglide.

Gorgeous, huh? I love that freaking Pearlglide, damnit. Bye, money! The guys had to leave to catch a cab so I finished the rest of my face after they’d gone and then didn’t take a photo because I got distracted by all the Jubilee pageantry ( I just used aBB cream, Illamasqua Torture and BeautyUK Peach and Cream) but I got to do a full face on Kathy!

kathy green

Eyes:  Too Faced Shadow Insurance. Almay Intense i-Colour 414 trio for eyes (Light green, lid.) Nars Habanera duo (green, outer lid), MAC Pearglides in Industrial and Designer Purple.
Face: Tarte Clean Slate Flawless Primer, Maybelline Fit Me Foundation, Clinique Airbrush Concealer, Sleek blush in Fenberry.
Lips: Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss in Hermetic.

That is a rubbish eye shot! Sorry, dude. Kathy has amazing skin and I’m hella jealous. I loved playing with all her makeup – I love other people’s stashes! I need the Habanera Duo and Industrial like nobodies business.

It was sooooo nice to see them and I wish they’d been here longer so I could have showed them more London stuff. And also that it didn’t piss it down for the whole two days. Meh, it was super fun and we’re going to do it again!

Half a face!

Let's see what difference half a face of makeup makes, shall we? Men, this is how we decieve you!

I'm wearing foundation, powder, blush, contour, highlight, liner, mascara, shadow and highlights, brow pencil and powder, eyelashes on the top and bottom lids, lipstick and liner and a cupid's bow highlight. Drag-tastic, yes?

I don't wear this much colour on my face normally, or fill in my brows that dark, or have lashes, but my base is the same.as always (no concealer, baby, all Colorstay. That stuff is amazing!) and while my eyeshadow is quite in your face in the video it's not actually *more* eyeshadow that I would normally wear if that makes sense!  But look at the difference. Obviously I prefer my made-up face or I wouldn't bother - it's mostly my light brows and lashes that I don't like.
Silliness aside, I think wearing half-and-half is a great way of trying new things. For example, trying a new foundation out - you're going to be able to make a good  judgement and gather your thoughts for a review a little better if you can compare it to your naked face, no?

Kathy also has her half face video up. If you've not checked out The Makeup Heroes, the YouTube channel collaboration I'm part of, please do! It's just us being silly and trying looks together, it's fun!

Oh... Can I just point out, by the way, that when I say 'this is my naked face,' I MEAN it. No sneaky foundation. *No* photoshopping. Just me. And it always will be.
